Japan mounts missile self-defence

news.bbc.co.uk

Japan has deployed a mobile defensive missile system near Tokyo for the first time to try to protect the capital in the event of a missile attack.

The Patriot missiles have come into service a year earlier than planned, after North Korea's firing of missiles and a nuclear test last year.

Japan sees North Korea as a real threat to security. This deployment is the first stage in a wider defence plan.

Japan installing defensive missile systems, Turkey cancels military leaves, US Military Build-up, Russia/China heightened alert.

Does anyone else want to get ready for war?

It's obvious these militaries are preparing to be engaged in war within the coming week.

The stage is set and the curtain is coming up..

Japan is allowed to do this correct? This doesn't count as a violation or terms from WW2 where they aren't suppose to have an army. Sorry, I'm very uninformed about that subject and was just wondering if they are allowed to have missle defense systems.

ARTICLE 9. Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes.

In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized.

They aren't allowed to build a military according to Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution. During the Korean War, the last of the American forces were pulled from Japan. (They were there in order to protect them from their lack of military.) Which then Japan in turn created a defensive force which used special names for military vehicles to avoid the government claiming this military was unconstitutional. I believe America actually suggested this path to the Japanese, since the American government has never questioned this since it is genuinely for self-defense purposes. They have performed multinational peacekeeping operations, but have never been engaged in an offensive strike.

Basically they just aren't allowed to have a military with the potential to wage war. It seems no superpowers mind Japan having a military as long as the sole goal of the military is for self defense.
