The infamous tuberculosis hospital turned to a mental retardation research / hospital facility in the early 1980s. There's paranormal activity reported since it's shutdown and pictures of ghost--but when I've looked in the archives in ATS, I hadn't seen much investigation.

So you get the general idea:
Early 1900s, hundreds were dying of tuberculosis and antibotics had not existed in the sense they have today. Survival was low and many were continuing to fall ill. Thus came the Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Kentucky, the biggest and most relied on facility to find a cure and nurse those sick.
After the development of the antibiotic streptomycin in 1943, over 60,000 people died due to tuberculosis in that hospital alone. There was no longer a need to have such a facility since there was a antidote hence closure.
Not a year later, did the facility change from Sanatorium to Woodhaven Geriatrics Hospital in 1962. However, reports claimed patient abuse and only got worse throughout the years. Eventually, the reports were outrageously large--enough so to close the facility for good in 1982.
A previous owner then bought and destroyed all but the main building to create a giant statue of Jesus but funds and being a Historic Landmark, the court did not allow complete demolition--so it stood.
Graffiti, broken windows, and cracked foundations are all that lie now from the Waverly Hills Sanatorium.

Paranormal activity ranges from television shows (ABC, Scifi, VH1) claiming footage and pictures of ghosts and demons walking the halls. I must admit, it does get tiring hearing, "I just saw something!" or having witness accounts but no substantial evidence.

So then I ask, is there any pictures ATS can find or footage true to paranormal activity--I've been looking for two days and all I can find is eye-witness accounts. Can anyone help? Cure my curiousity once again!

I have seen TV specials dedicated to Waverly. You could look at the websites of the scifi channel, or maybe discovery channel.

Actually I have and there wasn't much there then a little written information on what happened and some more eye-witness accounts of what happened.

You're right I went and check it too for nothing but an old schedule. I did find this though:

www.squidoo.com...

O long list- if you dig into it you'll find photos but the only video I've seen are trailers for the show, "Spooked."

I watched that show on TV and was at least as freaked out by the documented history and first hand accounts of old staff as I was by any paranormal evidence they may have caught...

There is a horror movie called 'Death Tunnel' that has been made in that building. On the DVD extras the actors and crew explain how they experienced the paranormal activity going on in the building. The movie is a real 'must see'.
There is also a documentary made called 'spooked', you can buy or rent it on DVD as well. After watching the movie I was a little disappointed when I saw the documentary. There are interviews on it with people who used to work in the Woodhaven hospital, these people also claim that there's a lot of 'unexplainable stuff' going on in the building.

The reason this building speaks to the imagination is because of the deathtunnel built under the hospital. It's a very long tunnel leading up to the trainrails. During the times when the building was a sanitorium this tunnel was used to transport the dead bodies from the hospital to the train tracks or to the herses waiting outside. They did this so the patients inside the hospital wouldn't be confronted with the numerous dead people. The sanitorium was known for it's good treatment concerning TBC, but in reality thousands of people died in there, they just wanted to cover it up so the sanitorium could keep its good name.

I saw the Ghost Hunters episode about this. It was very interesting. They managed to find shadow people - on the flat roof I think. That 'death tunnel' didn't really seem all that impresive, but the rest of the place did.

There was some speculation about a nurse killing herself up on the roof (by hanging herself)... Some people say that she was pregnant, others say that there never was a nurse that hung herself there... But there have been many sightings on the top floor.
