But that's most likely a case of inferior image mirage. Otherwise you've got a building sitting on a tiny island with no bridge to it.

Groom Lake is wet after it rains, just like Rogers Lake at Edwards (or any other dry lakebed. The water isn't very deep, but if there is enough rain, it stays wet for quite some time.

When these lakes are in their wet stage, you can usually find copepods (tiny shrimp-like creatures) swimming around. At Edwards, this draws sea birds in from the coast to enjoy a feast. When the lakebed dries up again, the shrimp die and create an awful stench.
