Dinosaurs could go underground 95 million years ago: Study
Washington, Mar.21: A Montana State University researcher and his colleagues have discovered the fossilized remains of a dinosaur family in a burrow, suggesting that the large reptiles possessed the ability to go underground in the event of danger.
According to David Varricchio and his colleagues, the discovery in Southern Montana provides the first evidence that dinosaurs could burrow, and the best evidence yet for long-term parental care in dinosaurs.
The team has named the beast Oryctodromeus cubicularis, meaning 'digging runner of the lair'. It belongs to a group of small herbivorous dinosaurs, and lived 95 million years ago during the mid-Cretaceous period.
