GPS sneakers soon to hit retail stores

newsinfo.inquirer.net

WASHINGTON -- Isaac Daniel hopes the next time someone wears his sneakers, the footwear may prove to be life saving.

The 38-year-old engineer and one-time UN scientific analyst has developed a line of running shoes with a tiny Global Positioning System (GPS) chip that can locate the wearer anywhere in the world with the press of a button.

Daniel said the $350 sneakers, which he believes can help save children in trouble or even Alzheimer patients, will hit stores in May or June with more than 30,000 orders already pouring in from retailers worldwide.

This is cool. I think this can save lives in anyway. Better than not having anything as a precautionary measure.

It is also a good idea to have this on wrist watches, necklace and other things that can be worn. The only donwside is if someone removes or if there is some technical malfunction.

This is something that must be used for children and others who may need to be tracked.

Actually in Japan, there were several kids that have been using GPS wrist watches. Parents can monitor the movement of the kids in the PC even at home.

Cool stuff.

Of course this technology is going to be marketed as a good thing at first.Lost kids etc. How long before they put it on every person in one form or another so they can keep track of everybody.I for one do not support the advancement of this technology.

Can they still be called "sneakers" then?

It sounds like a good idea. And may be, in many instances.
The whole "remote activation" feature, could be handy.
But that's the feature that is a tad scary too.
