Earth bakes in hottest quarter on record

THE Earth has just experienced its warmest December-February since records began 128 years ago, adding fire to global warming concerns.
A US government agency reported a record warm January worldwide pushed average temperatures to 0.72C above normal for the 20th Century.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said it was the highest average temperature for the period since records began in 1880.

The El Nino was the cause of the warm temps this winter.
Early winter actually. When the El Nino weakened in late Jan.-early Feb. temps were normal or below.

All these words like "swelters" and "bakes" is a bunch of nonsense. Idiots trying to scare the ignorant masses....

OP- This has been the hottest quarter so far but I have a feeling it will keep getting hotter. My thoughts are that it's a combination of natural cycles and greenhouse gasses. Facts are facts but I hate it when spin is put on it by the media.

Yeah, once January came around, it was in the single digits.

It wasn't single digits at my place, in fact it never got under 30 degrees the entire winter. It's GLOBAL Warming, not regional weather events and it honestly doesn't matter if it's man-made or natural, we are going through a rapid climate change that could cause a worldwide disaster for the human race.

Mankind can survive in extreme temperatures but food crops have strict climate requirements and now that we've lost most of the bio-diversity in plants there are few strains that would survive a major climate change. In our lifetimes we could see wars for arable land and water, millions dying of starvation in first world countries.

All I see is people trying to lay blame or avoid blame and no effort to find a solution. It seems to me that we have the intelligence and technology to change the Earth's atmosphere, but we're just going to sit around and cry about it until it's too late to do anything.

Exactly. The earf absolutely has cycles, but to claim that humanity is innocent is retarded. We all learned about greenhouse gasses in school, it's simple science and there is nothing "so called" about it.

Politicians, media, and corporations should keep their god damned hands off of this subject and leave it to the scientists because it's not the type of thing you'd want to screw around with. I'm almost at the point where I'd be happy to see the planet show signs of irreversable death just so I could do the "I told you so" dance.

Had to quote both of you on this. Greenhouse gases ARE natural. Water Vapor is by far the most abundant and most important greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gases are also VERY important for the earth. We'd be a giant ice ball without them.
Human contribution to greenhouse gases come mainly in the form of C02 (which accounts for well less than 1% of the earth's atmosphere). C02 is also very natural as volcanoes produce more than we do. Nevertheless, us increasing our C02 emission (and putting more of it in the atmosphere) does disturb the equilibrium the earth likes. But again, the earth has had to deal with much more increases in C02 from volcanoes going off and even variations with the sun and it's cycles. To counteract this the earth starts to release more infrared radiation and also increases cloud cover (which increases albedo). It's all about balance. The earth will do whatever it can to balance things out regardless of our meddling.
As far as all the doom and gloom stuff....well....that's what sells papers. No one knows what's going to happen. We're still technically coming out of an ice age so the earth will continue to warm for a while (again to find that balance). Stuff will happen as the process continues. Will it be as bad as some of these people are predicting? Probably not.
And what we may find abnormal is perfectly normal for the earth. We've only had good records for what? 100 years?

It's impossible to measure the temperature of a huge vast 3 dimensional non- isotropic non- homogenous variable density object like a planet with it's own internal heat source plus energy from an external source like the sun.

I fear you are all being hoodwinked by liers and charlatens and self deluded experts with small minds.

If you dont believe me go and imagine you are an ant and measure the temperature of a boeing aircraft manufacturing plant.
