Does anybody have any ideas on how somebody could get a ride in a current inventory military jet fighter?? I have a very close friend in my life that would do anything for the chance. I know it is possible in a few remote ways, but I missed my opportunity when I worked with the Navy and would sure like to know if there is another way??? Other than being a news person, or a high profile celebrity of some sort!

Thanks for any and all help...Peace, Mondo

P.S. I know this is a total shot in the dark and probably not possible but I did assure him that I would ask you all..and I always keep my word, so no heckling me for asking please!

The only person that I know of had an identical twin who made his career the Marines. He said his brother (who has been in the Marines for 18 years) was able to get him a ride in a current fighter (don't know what it was) because they thought he was his brother.

That's the only person I know who has gotten a ride in a current fighter.

Does your friend have an identical twin in the service?

Good luck to him.

Fly the legendary MiG-29 or Russia's newest and most advanced high-altitude interceptor, the incredible MiG-31 Foxhound.

Or did you mean American military jet?

Thanks for pointing that out as it is what I mean! I know about the russian things and thanks for the link, but yeah, I was actually meaning a current inventory U.S. miltary jet.

Peace and thanks again.....Mondo

You need to be a member of the press. That seems to be the easiest way short of being the son of a Senate appropriations committie member,

For an F/A-18 in Australia, if you are a journalist, or a politician, it is possible. We do familiarisation flights for some non-aircrew members (airmen who are posted in the squadron and coming up to posting out, or photographers taking footage) where possible, but other than this, the chances of getting a flight are close to non-existant. This is simply due to liability if anything goes wrong, including if you are so sick you need a drip (which I've seen happen a few times...)

It'd be relatively easy to get a ride (but not quite cheap) in a Russian fighter, but it's near-impossible to get one in an American jet. Still, if you really did want a ride I'm fairly sure you could find a few ways to entertain yourself during a ride in a MiG-29 or Su-27 rather than a Fighting Falcon or Hornet.
