No culture is inferior. They may be more or less materially advanced than we, or any other critira you wish to chose... but if it works for the people of it then it is not inferior, just different. It is arrogance, ignorance and racism to assume that there are superior and inferior cultures.

From the original source:

The historical scholar Seymour Lipset put it this way: 'The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence.

Canadians? Is this a problem in Canada? Are French and English both official languages?

This one actually concerns me. I have been concerned about this for some time. Not in the "minorities", of course, but in general population without regard to minority status:

"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology.' I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."

I think he's mixing several issues into one and I think that's dangerous. But he makes some valid points (IMO) if you can separate out the racist stuff.

"Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits ~ make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of 'diversity.' I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'x! xenophobes' halt discussion and debate."

I just find that funny.

It works for the people doing the killing and mutilation of women, ethnic groups and generally everyone they like (if they have a religious decree to do so).

These things aren't inferior, they're inhuman.

And it's not a matter of whose "inferior" or "superior" anyway (to all those suggesting that western culture is in fact superior to some other cultures).
There are laws. Those who don't obey them because they have "different customs" should not live a country with these laws. It's legal to be Nazi in the US right? Not in Germany.

1 – Turn America officially into a bilingual or multi-lingual or multicultural country.

2 – Invent extreme ‘multiculturalism’.

3 – Celebrate diversity rather than unity.

4 – Encourage immigrants to be unassimilated and to fully keep their own language and culture. Reinforce differences rather than similarities.

5 – Encourage an underclass that is uneducated, unassimilated, and antagonistic towards those who are educated and assimilated.

6 – Establish a cult of victimology. Have all minorities think that their lack of success is due to the ethnic majority. Start a grievance industry that minorities blame all their problems on the ethnic majority.

7 – Encourage dual identities and divided loyalties. (my note here - Obama’s ‘church’ and it’s call to be faithful to their motherland – Africa – came to mind).

8 – Make it culturally taboo to be against diversity.

As to why he feels these things will destroy America - read the article.
I just gave the main points.

Unfortunately, that is exactly what is happening. It's working quite well I must say. Yet, stupid Americans say that the border issue is not really an issue.
America was cursed when it took on the role of "The melting pot of the world."

because diversity and the influx of new cultures has really always hurt america in the long run, right?

i challenge you to give me 1 example where an influx of immigrants to the USA has had a bad impact overall

The only stupid Americans I have ever met are those who insist America is only for Americans. Each group that have come to this country have only enriched it.

Some people take that melting pot metaphor too seriously.

Melting Pot is a term that originated in Israel Zangwill's 1908 drama, The Melting Pot. It examined the American dream, the acceptance of newcomers, and their subsequent Americanization. German immigrants had used the term schmelztiegel ("melting pot") in the early nineteenth century, but the term was not popularized until Zangwill's play. The term is flexible and could mean "melting" or the creation of the homogenous American; it also refers to the mixing of various elements that lead to homogeneity. In the mid-twentieth century, cultural theorists who disputed the homogeneity theory increased the elasticity of the term by arguing for a stew, salad, or orchestra metaphor..

Melting pot doesn't necessarily mean that we all become a large amorphous blob of a country. Eeeww.

You make an excellent point Heretic, something that is causing concern for a lot us, including those who immigrated to the U.S. to live as an American, only to see that America is beginning to lose its once prominent identity. I am disgusted to see those that parade foreign flags around rather than the country that gave them their jobs. The immigrants that once came here had to work hard to learn the language, and adapt; they didn't expect the U.S. to bend over backwards for them. Now Americans are being forced to be bilingual and 'tolerate' foreign cultures that would typically violate the freedoms offered by this country. These inferior cultures are just that. Inferior, spreading their inferiority into a great nation.

Yeah... flags... disgusting!

Yeah, their flags suck!

Seriously, though... (and I wasn't serious above... I was making fun of your opinions about "inferior" cultures and people.)

I found an interesting article about how our actions based on compassion for immigrants is actually making them weaker and unable to "make it" here in the US. Check this out.

Compassion and the Decline of America

It's by some no-doubt right wing conservative...
but I have to agree with some of what he says. Coddling people makes them weak, fragile, victims. Challenging them, daring them, confronting them makes them strong and more able to survive in what is sometimes a very harsh "climate".

They learned that they do not have to deal with disappointment in life. Instead, someone in authority will take care of them. (This is how reliance on the state for personal problems -- the worldview of the Left -- is formed early in life.)

They learned that their feelings, not objective standards, are what society deems most important.

They learned that they are not responsible for their behavior. No matter how poorly they perform, there will be no consequences -- sort of like tenure for university professors.

The article also talks about how teaching immigrants in their language and not requiring them to learn English is a handicap when they grow up and get out in the work force. Nobody's going to hire someone who doesn't even speak English. What were we thinking when we hired special teachers so these kids didn't have to learn English???

I was against it then and I'm even more so now.

Compassion is a good thing when dealing with people. But as a political and social strategy, too much of a good thing can be really detrimental. I think this goes back to the original post here.

" It is arrogance, ignorance and racism to assume that there are superior and inferior cultures."

No. It's fact.

Islam may have been advanced several hundred years ago, but it's a backwards, misogynistic, ignorant goat-herder philosphy/religion today.

Islam slashes the clitoris out of the body of young Islamic girls with rusty razor blades. Claimed reason? Answer: so the girl will not experience sexual pleasure and will be less likely to stray and more likely to succumb to physical beatings, the lifelong back-breaking toil and endless animal breeding imposed on her by islamic males.

That is the mindset of an INFERIOR culture, religion and people.

Italians who came to the US practised any number of backwards, ignorant, misogynistic, controlling, clannish, beliefs, such as parading blood-spotted wedding-night linen before the entire town to 'prove' their daughter/daughter in law was a --- gasp -- VIRGIN.

" My daughter/daughter in law's HYMEN was intact when my son/son in law penetrated her last night. No matter my daughter/daughter in law may be an inbred semi-idiot with the morality, intelligence, capability of a rotten watermelon -------- her damn HYMEN was intact ! Yipee ! We don't exactly know why we're celebrating this animalistic nonsense, because now that all important scrap of membrane has been torn, it STILL provides no gaurantee at all that the children she bears will be her husband's."

And let's not forget just how zealously the Italian Mafia 'enriched' the US, huh? Now that really DID add some flavour to the good ole melting-pot. All those wonderful, heart-warming Italian customs, such as kissing your victim on the cheek as you sink the knife into his back. All those charming, Mediterranean customs such as garotting anyone who failed to pay 'protection' (aka: extortion) money and burying their bodies beneath tons of concrete in roads and building-foundations. Painting black hand prints on victims' doors: tossing severed animal heads into people's beds. Kidnapping the children of the wealthy and sending severed ears and fingers to their relatives.

All so they could slake their rampant greed and materialism: all so they could buy their swarthy offspring another vulgar, flashy car or send their monobrow children to 'prestigious' schools ----- utilizing stolen money dripping with blood. Then off to church on Sunday to pay lip-service to a God whom they very OBVIOUSLY believe is as ignorant, stupid and greedy as they are themselves.

THAT is the mind-set of an inferior culture.

Then we have all the 'minority groups' who infest the US: the Islanders, those from the Sub-Continent, those from the Mid-East, etc., -- ALL of whom have no idea or even interest in what it means to be 'American' ! They migrate to the US because they've seen it in the movies and THEY want all those goodies: the mansions, the gold-painted vehicles, the gold chains around their necks, the Rolex watch, etc. They want to be 'movie stars' and 'pop stars'. They believe that once they hit the shores of 'America', their stunning talents will make millionaires out of them.

But of course, the most notable characteristic of all these 3rd world types with their five year old mentalities is the fact they do NOT become 'Americans' at all. Instead, they simply add to communities comprised of their own kind ! In short, the US is host to 'little Chinas, 'little Italies', 'little Mumbais/Bombays', 'little Beiruts', 'little Tel Avivs', etc., ALL determined to 'preserve their national identies' and all patronising their own 'kind' ----- and just too damn bad about eighth generation Americans whose neighbourhoods and standard of life suffer as consequence.

After all, who do these damn Americans think they are? The US is where any no-talent wannbe can become an 'overnight millionaire celebrity' (well, that's the rumour in the 3rd World) and people are scrambling from the god-forsaken holes in which they were raised, in order to come and grab a bit of that good-stuff, so Americans better step out of the way and stop 'victimising' folk who move into the neighbourhood and believe it their right to put twenty of their countrymen into one room and empty their bowels and slaughter goats in the backyard, then trash the house and leave without paying any of the back rent.

The thinking of these people is that if Americans (or more rightly their traitorous politicians) are stupid enough to open their doors to strangers, then they deserve what they're getting (and losing).

And what they're getting is an influx of people from inferior cultures: cultures which believe it's ok to sell their 12 year old daughter for a handful of rupees, knowing the girl will be taken directly to the river bank, crudely murdered and disemboweled so that her fresh young kidneys can be sold to some ageing AIDS/disease ridden guy in Paris or Frankfurt.

That handful of rupees is IMPORTANT, ya hear ! It means the precious Numba-Five son will be that much closer to raising the bride-price he needs. And when that happens, the parents figure they'll be that much closer to gaining a coveted pension-plan. Because Numba-Five son's intended bride's parents own sixty goats and a hole-in-the-wall shop -- which means some of it will filter down to his disgusting, ignorant parents -- those who felt nothing when they sold their 12 year old daughter for body-parts.

Oh yes -- there are inferior cultures. And if you really are as interested in disproving it as you claim, get off your no-nothing backside and go and REALLY 'celebrate diversity', up close and personally. It will provide you the education your government deprived you of.

Dock6:

Only some, mostly African, cultures practice female circumsission and it is a practice that pre-dates Islam by several hundred if not thousand years... as a matter of fact many of the things we consider typically Islamic such as the veil and the harem were adopted from the cultures they conquored... ex: the veil and the harem were adapted from the Greek Christian Byzentian empire. The west has done some pretty stupid things as well and has acted brutally also. I just want to point those things out and to also add that there are many cultures within Isalm and they do not all practice the same things.

All that aside. Your post drips of hostility, ignorance and bigotry and it is really sad that you or anyone else should be so blind at this late date.

I don't know, grover... After reading Dock6's last post, I have the distinct feeling that maybe there is such a thing as an inferior culture... only it's none of the ones he mentioned...

Are cultures more or less advanced materially, socially, technically, yes; of course they are but that is not the same thing as an inferior culture... an inferior culture is one that has ceased to meet the needs of its members essentially and as such is a dead or dying culture. Look at the Inuit... in terms of material goods or technology, are, even today, by our standards are very meager but at the same time they are still thriving.

Dock, the truth is always appreciated, however not many seem to like it these days. And yes, that is the inferiority I was referring to. Cultures that spread religious violence, cultures that refuse to abide by the laws of the country they immigrated to and implement the laws of some barbaric tradition. Point being, these liberals, or whatever you want to call them, welcome these cultures to the U.S. and are trying to make laws to give these foreign criminals more 'freedom' to practice terrorism in the U.S.. 9/11 is a result of political correctness. Liberals made it clear they would rather stand with terrorists then for their own country.

Nonsense utter and absolute nonsense.

Where do you get your news and opinions from Micheal Savage and Ann Coulter?

Hardly what I would call civilized or intelligent people.

You probably have no idea what liberalism is all about do you?

Now looking at this purely from one with "No Dog in the Fight" I would have to interject that it all depends on how you are using the term "Inferior."

What section of the definition are you referring to...

This is an incredibly, politically incorrect subject, so forgive me for stepping on toes.. There are a few posters here that value political correctness to the extreme... BUT....

There are Cultures that fit within the definition of inferior... Sorry that offends, but one need only read the definition to know the truth...

There are culture that are lower than ours in "quality", that act in a comparatively, "Poor or Mediocre" manner.
This is a simple fact and requires no racism, bigotry or prejudice to see it...

One need only use the standards that all "First World" countries aspire to, to begin to place other cultures in an inferior position...

Inferior does not however mean without merit... In my Department, I am of an inferior rank to two other men. That does not make me any less than I am, it just means that I am below them.

Semper... The Australian Aborigines (for example) culture is/was by all accounts paleolithic or primitive so by one definition they would be considered inferior BUT as a culture it has lasted 30,000+ years so by another definition, the one I prefer BTW they are highly successful and in comparison... if an Australian Aborigine drafted an IQ test all of western civilization would fail it. Why? Because knowledge is a quality that by its very nature is selective as opposed to objective (as if there is such a thing as objective knowledge in the first place, but that is another argument). I would assume my knowledge as a chef and graphic artist would do me no good on the streets you patrol and dare say you would probably be lost in a professional kitchen and neither of us would last long in the Australian outback where water is rare, food is scarce and it gets up into the 120's during the day and freezing at night.

The same argument could be made of the Inuit as I mentioned earlier or of the plains Indians.

I would have less objection to the subject matter of this thread if we were discussing failed cultures but the summation of Mr. Lamm's speech isn't that there are failed cultures (the facts suggest that the Aztec for example were a failed culture because they fell so easily and so completely, whereas both the Maya and the Inca, while they fell are successful because as cultures they still exist behind an imported veneer) but that there are inferior ones. The fact that there are those who still hold onto them and are willing to fight and die for them suggests that far from failed or inferior, that they are still alive and vibrant and by necessity, worth something.

If we as in American civilization is still here in recognizable form 500 years from now then perhaps we can seriously discuss the matter of successful or superior vs failed or inferior cultures... after all for most of the previous civilizations, 400 years (since Jamestown) or 231 years (since independence) we are still wet behind the ears.

I think part of the problem is that there are 11 meanings of the word there.
Which one do we use?

Also, the word inferior implies that we are "superior" and while some people have the OPINION that we are superior, others don't.

It's just not as easy and clear cut as saying that some people (or cultures) are inferior. How is it measured? What comes to mind when you use that word may not be what comes to mind when I use it.

I don't see people or cultures as inferior or superior. Advanced, yes. Backward, yes. Primitive, yes. More intellectual, yes. But the word "inferior" is not a word I'd personally use to describe a person or culture.
