I just received a u2u informing me somebody had made me their foe

I could not care less who regards me as a Foe here at ATS.

Can i turn this function off, it seems it is just there to stir up trouble.

Then just ignore it, remember the definition of foe is not about been an enemy but that the person that makes you his foe regards you as a worthy opponent.

Unless you have some issues with each other.

I am honored to have two foes so far in a sea of friends.

Foes arn't neccessaraly a bad thing. Often times a foe is someone that will keep you in check, not actualy an enemy. ATS would be a boring place if absolutly everyone agreed with everything everyone else said.

A good foe can make it a bit more chalenging to get your point across and you will have to work a little harder to convince your detractor of your point of view.

I so far have a few foes on my page and I can say that I do not hate any single one of them. The ones that I have chosen for my worthy advasaries are just that. Worthy. They are intelegent and sophisticated individuals. They don't agree with my point of view but they also have valid reasons behind their points of view.

Good foes make ATS a great place to be.

THis may just be a glitch. My fiance and I added each other as friends, and I watched her do it, yet in my U2U's it says she added me as a foe.

MODS!? could you look into this?

After the foe button is pressed is there an option to catagorise what type of foe they are meaning, as in A.worthy foe B. scum enemy (would not p1zz on them if they were on fire)

Dress it up any way that makes you feel good, but at the end of the day o foe is the enemy/opponent.

Your my foe because I don't like people complaining that they don't want foes, which in my book makes you a FOE.

You are now my enemy!

Exactly!

I don't consider my "foes" here on ats as my enemies, but as worthy (and respected) opponents.

Is there any option button to remove a foe or friend?

What is a foe become's a friend or a friend becomes a foe?

Thanks RT

I put people I find quality and intelligable proponents of "the other side of whatever argument we're in" as foes and utterly ignore people that I dislike because of their behaviour and irrational standpoints.

They are also the people on my ignore list :p

Imho being acknowledged as a foe means that what you've said has made a point to the other person or at least made the other person re-evaluate his/her own views on a subject.

I will refrain from making anyone a friend or foe.

I prefer to just post and enjoy the forum as is.

I think you can just click on the Friend or Foe icon under their names if you want to switch them. I still see the icons under people that I have marked as friends so I assume its not permanent.

I have a single "foe" - a young person who apparently gets kicks out of making as many people his foe as possible.

I'm not a fan of this feature, mainly because I feel it's adding false information to my personal profile.

I have never been actively engaged in debate with this person, and he has made it well known to several people that he's doing it just for fun and giggles - a bit of the personal "one up manship", if you will.

I would appreciate the option to deny the "foe" status, just to maintain integrity to my profile, and my work here on ATS.

Thanks.

I don't regard anyone as a "foe," because even if the intended definition is "worthy opponent" or "respected counterpart," I don't believe in or actively take part in competition of any kind knowingly. I disagree with people, but don't seek to convince them of my view; I merely express my own and respect the ones they have. I don't think more emphasis has to be placed on disagreements than is already inherent in the act of disagreeing itself. Arbitrarily declaring someone a "foe" seems, in my opinion, to imply that they are a person who you continually or perpetually disagree with, whereas I prefer to look at disagreements on a discussion by discussion basis, and as temporary.

I see relationships between (or relations with) people as flexible, organic processes, rather than static arrangements. I see people as fellow participants in discussions with diverse views, rather than opponents. No one on this site is my adversary or opponent, even in the most civil terms. They are members of what I see as a collective continuum of diversity.

All that said, I do understand and appreciate the intent behind this feature, and respect those who enjoy or embrace it. I also don't want to see it done away with, simply because some people obviously enjoy or prefer it.

Any lostie is a friend of mine. I figure a friend is the white rock and a foe is the black rock. As far as friend and foe here on ATS, it doesn't matter much to me. We have U2U's that can determine friend or foe. Can't wait to see what happened to Lock, I've been wanting to know this from the beginning. Lock is my friend.
