Question about one of my all time faves, the B-36 - I know theres none flying, but does anyone know if theres a project to try and get one in the air?
Now that XH588 is back up I'd certainly back such a project.
I should have been more precise, I meant only one flying Lanc, until a few years ago the Canadian one was a static display airframe but they restored
it to flying condition.
There is also a third complete Lancaster at the Bomber Command museum in Lincolnshire and this has progressed from a static exhibit to taxying, but
remains unflyable as yet.
I was flicking through the current edition of Aeroplane Monthly in W H Smiths last week and there are some colour shots of a B-36 restoration project.
I didn't read it though but it might be worth you tracking it down?
Hey just though I'd link you to a page about the restoration and assembly of a b-36 for prima air museum. Not a flying example though that I can
think of. X558 was still a taxi worth airframe and thats not the case with any B-36 that I know of. Any ways here is the link
Actually there was a project in the 1970s to fly a B-36 from the soon to be closed Greater Southwest airport near Ft Worth, to Meacham field or the
new DFW airport for display.
They almost had it ready to go, when they ran into roadblocks from USAF, then both of those airports werent really interesting in having it there.
Ah I recognise this one RAF Fairford 1993 .. I was 8 years old and witnessed this happen. Got home video of it somewhere on tape that I've still been
meaning to get developed
