Pro-Democracy Protesters Beaten by Russian Police

Source Link: www.cnn.com

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) -- Police clubbed protesters and dragged them into waiting buses on Saturday in response to a defiant demonstration against the Kremlin in the heart of President Vladimir Putin's hometown.

Several thousand members of liberal and leftist groups chanted "Shame!" as they marched down St. Petersburg's main avenue to protest what they said was Russia's rollback from democracy. The demonstration, called the March of Those Who Disagree, was a rare gathering of the country's often fractious opposition.

For those of you who are wondering if Russia has reverted back to communism this should serve as a wake up call, in the past I have been chastised by some for suggesting that Russia was not really a democracy.

Well it would appear that some of her own people think that the government has rolled back from democracy.

Since he took office in 2000, Putin has taken gradual steps to centralize power and eliminate democratic checks and balances. He has created an obedient parliament, abolished direct gubernatorial elections, tightened restrictions on rights groups and presided over the reining in of non-state TV channels.

I was just looking for a way to create this thread but it would seem that another gifted student of the Force, has already done so. Good work Sentinal !
This link has the whole story in Yahoo! News. Anyone who can look at Putin and think he is a "good-hearted" man, needs a serious eye exam! Much is to be said about what is happening in that country in Revelation. Seem's like the Bear is waking up. The war of Gog and Magog is a good starter for understanding the role Putin play's in the greater scheme of things.

thanks ForceMaster for the link to the yahoo reference it is a stark reality that Russia has been playing damocracy for an effective sharade to get the U.S. to let her guard down.

For those who dont believe that Russia is a foe, instead of a friend. you can only keep your head in the sand for so long. Untill finally you have to come up for air.

I've been saying this for years. Why anyone would believe that Putin, an ex KGB agent, would help to usher in a free society is beyond me. He is a commie at heart and is only playing us for the reason you stated; to get us to let our guard down.

In addition, it really concerns me that the Russians are developing new and improved nukes specifically designed to defeat our missile defense shield (MDS). Couple that with their recent objections to the U.S. placing MDS assets in Europe to defend against possible Iranian ICBM's and you get a picture of what the Russians are up to. They even said that they would directly target USAF European MDS assets with nukes. The cold war, my friends, is not over.

My pleasure Sentinal. I think that this whole Putin thing is a perfect example of how prophesy, so easily outlined, comes to pass while people look on in shock and suprise.
. This shows the veil of deception's power over those who do not feel the need to see the truth, but wonder why they are caught off guard. For anyone who even looks at Putin with an ounce of intuition, can see the evil oozing from him.

Also our own development of a new generation of nuclear arms, just announced days ago gives cause for real concern over this issue. our leaders seriously need to wake up! before we all end up with nuclear winter this summer. and just in case here's a link for what to do.....

At least one unbrainwashed and objective person in this thread..
Those "pro-democracy" protesters are what is left from the 90's, when the country was robbed by the oligarchs. These people at the demonstration are sponsored by the USA and oligarchs, which are currently leaving outside Russia and willing to seize power in Russia by ANY means, even using "power", as Mr. Berezovsky sincerely told in one of his interviews and then said he was interpreted wrongly, what an worthless person! He meant EXACTLY what he said.
Come on people, if you believe everything what CNN covers, you live in a different world then.

Well, when I see the words "liberal and leftist groups" mentioned in the same sentence as "democracy", it raises my eyebrow.

My experience has been that "liberal and leftist groups" advocate socialism and communism, not democracy.

So they're not a democracy because of these incidents?

So back during the Poll Tax Riots in Britain, we were not a democracy because of these incidents? The miners strikes - we were not a democracy? Sorry but the logic doesn't work.

Just because a Government attacks its people, does not mean they are not democratic.

Now if the Russian state becomes an enemy again, won't all of our new middle eastern bases become very useful?

How far is Afghanistan from Russia?

Police clubbed protesters and dragged them into waiting buses...
From OP

What uncivilized heathens those Russians, in America our police use Tasers on unarmed citizens. Clubs are so messy with the blood and other bodily fluids that require clean up.
