ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) -- Police clubbed protesters and dragged them into waiting buses on Saturday in response to a defiant demonstration against the Kremlin in the heart of President Vladimir Putin's hometown.
Several thousand members of liberal and leftist groups chanted "Shame!" as they marched down St. Petersburg's main avenue to protest what they said was Russia's rollback from democracy. The demonstration, called the March of Those Who Disagree, was a rare gathering of the country's often fractious opposition.
Since he took office in 2000, Putin has taken gradual steps to centralize power and eliminate democratic checks and balances. He has created an obedient parliament, abolished direct gubernatorial elections, tightened restrictions on rights groups and presided over the reining in of non-state TV channels.

For those who dont believe that Russia is a foe, instead of a friend. you can only keep your head in the sand for so long. Untill finally you have to come up for air.

In addition, it really concerns me that the Russians are developing new and improved nukes specifically designed to defeat our missile defense shield (MDS). Couple that with their recent objections to the U.S. placing MDS assets in Europe to defend against possible Iranian ICBM's and you get a picture of what the Russians are up to. They even said that they would directly target USAF European MDS assets with nukes. The cold war, my friends, is not over.
