Another lunar picture!

Yes, I know, we're all sick of em!

But, I was just wondering, as I'm an aspiring photographer myself, how on earth can we clearly see the front of Edwin Aldrin here: IMAGE, while his back is to the sun? There is plainly no flash (check visor), and the shadow is in complete darkness. It should look more like this, no?

I'm just interested. Sorry.

I believe this is explained due to the radiant light which is reflecting from the surface of the moon.
I saw this demonstrated on a Moon hoax program once.
I'll see if I can find some more info.

That theory does not fit with this picture though, if you look at the rocks:-

This photo, of Aldrin, was taken by Armstrong on the moon's surface. THE HOAX: So why can you see aldrin at all if his face is in shadow?
This is easy to explain. The monn surface reflects back much more light than you might think, and the picture below shows how white and black card make so much difference to the appearance of the astronaut.
