I don't think it's so much watching you as it is a compiling of data on the idividual controlling the remote.

More along the lines of figuring out what we as an individual are paying more attention to?

You are correct they are compiling data on what you are watching, to the point of even being able to tell which member of the family has the remote. You know while all of this little bits of pieces of info they are compiling seems like nothing , put it together and it adds up to a total invasion of privacy without your permission, that's the issue, your privacy.

Scenario, you are fascinated by demolition and will often watch every demolition show on tv, it's sort of a hobby and you are thinking of getting a job in it and so you watch trying to learn stuff. You are considering how to go about getting training and a job in this, but you are not sure since you already have a good career with quite a few years in with the company, demolition is less pay but dangerous and it intriques you. You sometimes travel on days off to watch demolition jobs, demolition is your hobby.

Then there is a bombing and several people died as a result in your area, you have no criminal history whatsoever but the next thing you know you are pulled in for questioning. They demand to know where you were at a certain time, but you were home alone asleep and they don't believe you. You fit the description, 30ish and white with brown hair, that's the total description, a million guys fit that description in your area, but you are the one locked up.

You are held on suspicion and you have to hire a lawyer costing you a ton of money, meanwhile the FBI is combing through your home removing incriminating evidence, every magazine or book or video on demolition you own is put in as evidence, your photo album of trips you took and pics you snapped of the demolition, all your meds are taken and placed in evidence. All of your neighbors say you are such a nice guy, who would have ever thought such a thing, but now they all do.

The judge decides to keep you jailed until the trial, you might be too dangerous to let out amongst society, meanwhile the big dude in the cell with you has just fallen in love, with you. Your not able to work or pay your bills, you lose everything, your home is foreclosed, your car is repossessed and you are now broke, out steps your expensive attorney and in steps Mr. appointed by the state, who just does not give a crap about you, after all you are a broke bomber.

Finally the trial, it comes out that you are being treated for depression, love demolition and fit the description, you can't account for your where abouts and you are known to watch every documentary or movie with a bomb in it. They produce your tv viewing history and have a shrink that spent a total of two hrs with you say that you obviously have a thrill seeking complex over bombs and that you fit the profile of a bomber. The police say you are their only suspect and forget to mention that once they saw your viewing history and the fact that you were not able to provide an alibi they stopped looking for anyone else. They forget to mention that you also watch home improvement shows and cooking shows, sports and porn. Your attorney has fallen asleep by the time they sentence you to the death.

Well for one thing it could end annoying commercials that you don't care about and only show the ones that spark your interest.

The problem with such data mining is they don't know WHY you are watching.

1. There are no truly subversive programs on. What are you gonna do? Root for Gomer Pyle to "tear down the military machine" by driving that Seargant Carter insane?

2. You don't know how people are reacting emotionally to what they are seeing.

For instance, I turn the channel to pastor bob tilton to get my family to clear out of the living room. Then I can watch the college cheerleader national semi-finals in privacy.

Today I watched "march of the penguins," but I turned off the audio and played both sides of Black Sabbath's Volume Four for musical accompiniment.

Right now, the kids are watching Tom and Jerry, but I'm actually watching in the reflection in the hallway mirror while I type this. Does the government know?

None of the info they are gathering will help them sell me a new car, anyhow. That's the main reason to data-mine, by the way. It's business that wants to control you. The government only wants your vote.

Thank you, and good night.

.

If they do this, why would they hide something in the remote? Think out of the box, they can easily monitor what you change the channel too. especially with a ROD box(rogers on demand.[don't get one of these... I didn't need more channels that I don't want!])

OFF TOPIC: Anyone here watch MTV(canadian) there commercials get more subliminal looking every second, although, I did come to this conclusion on ecstasy.
