Canada embassy in Paris on alert
A security alert has been announced at the Canadian embassy in Paris after it received a suspicious package and an employee fell ill.
Police are investigating whether the two events were linked.
Police quoted by the Associated Press said they were investigating whether the package might pose a radioactive, biological or chemical danger.
Avenue Montaigne, where the embassy is located, has been closed off to traffic.
The package contained a piece of tissue soaked in an unknown fluid.
"We don't know what it was but it's not a toxic substance," said Florent Hivert, a spokesman for the Paris fire bridge.
