3. Is there any chance that the Raptor could get 360 degree thrudt vectoring in the future?

The only way for the USAF to get their grubby paws on some engines with 360 TVC would be to ask the Russians nicely. Which isn't going to happen.

The Brits have the same tech for the Tiffy, maybe they will share it with the Yanks. link

ok, the ruskies don't have 360 degree thrust technology...yet...and the american's x-plane program has come up with the engine, Pratt & Whitney PYBBN, and was put on the F-16 VISTA. the f-16 vista was flown in the 1990s. another, separate aircraft was created, the x-31, which was less advanced than the vista, and only had three thrust vectorers.
the brits have created the engine, but is not yet in the Europhighter Typhoon, just an idea.
the 360 degree nozzle probably will not be installed in any aircraft, too complex, costly, and it just makes room for things to go wrong, the F-22 is already the most manuverable fighter ever created, it is 100% capible the cobra manuver, where the aircraft stops in midair and then continues going forward.
the most the Russians have in thrust vectoring is similar to the f-22's, a Russian pilot was the first to perfect the Cobra.

You're kidding me, right?
Yes the Russians have 3-D vectored thrust technology.

A quick list of 3-D vectored thrust aircraft:

F-15 ACTIVE
F-16 MATV(Multi-Axis Thrust Vectoring) & VISTA
F-18 HARV (High Alpha Research Vehicle)
Mig-29OVT with the Klimov RD-33OVT engine
Su-27M family of aircraft including the SU-35,etc. (with AL-31 family of engines)

Dear WP 23.

You are comparing 4th gen AC with a 5th gen AC.

Isnt that a bit unfair? Hell! If we go that road, i could compare apples with oranges!!!!!!

To make a fair judgement, we need to have the PAK FA stage2 AC to start comparing it with the F-22.

The PAK FA AC will come in two distinct fases to get a true 5th gen AC for the RuAF.

Stage 1 is the airframe off the PAK FA with avionics, powerplants/engines, updated/upgraded weapons(missiles) off the SU-35BM.

Stage 2 is the PAK FA airframe with 5th gen avionics, powerplants/engines, completly new weapons(missiles) to make a true 5th gen AC.

------------------------------

About TVC stuff: The Russians DO have 3D TVC and the 35BM already has it and flies with it. the 35BM is going in service in 2010 to make the transistion from 27SM to PAK FA more easier.

That the F-22 has "just" 2D TVC isnt a big problem at all in my opinion since you should be happy that the bloody 22 has it at all since the western armies are more focused on helm cueing/off bore sight systems. But TVC and helm cueing combined are top killers and thats why the 22 is a good AC.

-------------------------------

The F35 isnt meant to "defeat" a 22 since it is a succesor off the F16 and the 16 does NOT have the role off defeating a fighter in the order off a F15.

the 35 is more meant to defeat planes like the MIG 29/35. the 22 is meant against 35BM, PAK FA.

Thats all for tonight.

Cheers

I've read all of my posts on this topic and I have yet to figure out why that post was addressed to me or why you even raised those points.

WP, the first lines where pointed to you but the later points are just point rased to correct some people's minds and to properly inform about the subjects being talked about.

But the F22 VS F35 is in a one on one situation an already played game wich the 22 cant loose at all.

In situations where 35's outnumber 22's heavely, then the 35 has a chance to knock one 22 out off the sky.

Quality and Quantity. The former being F22. The latter F35.

Nuff said.
