It appears that instead of asking Congressman Tancredo to stop smoking his cigar the only Muslim Congressman of either House, Keith Ellison, decided to just calll the cops.

www.foxnews.com
WASHINGTON — A freshman Democratic lawmaker's staff called Capitol Hill police last week to report a problem — cigar smoke coming from a neighboring Republican congressman's office.

Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison's office wanted the police to snuff out Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo's cigar, the Hill newspaper reports.

The two lawmakers have neighboring offices on the first floor of the Longworth House Office Building, but have not met.

"It's very bizarre," Tancredo said. "Seemed to me not a good way to say hello."

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

Now, I'm not going to say that the only reason Keith Ellison called the cops is because he is Muslim, however it does look like Keith has already started his own personal Jihad for his constituents of Minnesota.
This reminds me of my Muslim neighbor who came over to my house the third day after we moved in just to tell us that he was offended that we were keeping our dogs in OUR yard and could we instead keep our dogs inside our house. To that I answered, "No, are you serious?" Two weeks later we had Animal services at our house doing a checkup.

Muslims, are trying to change this country whichever way they can and are always trying to USE our Constitution against us. This is what true Jihad is, congrats Minnesota, you have a Jihadi for a congressman!

Would you call him a crusader if he was Christian?

I know plenty of people like this, who rely on the cops to do everything short of wiping the old bum - it's pathetic and laughable, but it's hardly unique to Muslims. If this guy was anything but Muslim, we'd all be happy just calling him an idiot.

As far as this guy trying to change America? Settle down, please. Maybe he is, probably he isn't, but in any case he's one person and his opinion will be added to the pile like everyone else's.

Why can't a Muslim just be an idiot, instead of a jihadi? You think he's waging a holy war because he's one of those annoying people who calls the cops everytime someone does something he doesn't like? I fail to understand the logic.

Is this a Federal / Government building? Frankly I am amazed he is able to smoke at all in the office. Something that has been denied to mere mortals for quite some time

Exactly!

So what does the issue become?

Partisan crap!

The issue should be; "hey, look at how they pass all this legislation to crush our freedoms and force us to comply then they do whatever they want!"

His salary is what they take from our paychecks. That cigar was paid for by us.

The idiot who wasted the cops time is paid by us. The cop is paid by us.

But I cant smoke in the post office or even at the bar anymore. Non smokers always had the choice to go into a smoke filled place or not. Wheres the smokers choice?

Yes, if he was Christian I would call him a crusader, especially if he was trying to change the rules for everyone else to make his "morality" the only socially accepted one. Examples of this "crusader" policy are abortion restrictions, not allowing anyone to buy alcohol on Sundays in certain states, forcing non-Christians to swear on the Bible etc.

Both are bad and both should not be able to contaminate our system. The less our government has to worry about religion the cheaper it will be for all of us.

The reason I called him a Jihadist, was because it seems that his "effort" was inspired from some non-rational behavior for reporting a crime like this before investigating further himself. He was trying to stir the pot, and he has at tax payers expense. Does a cop in DC really need to waste his time telling a congressman to please not smoke even if it is completely in his right to do so. Ellison should have to pay for the police call since it was more or less a false alarm.

Regardless, Wyrde we can agree that he is an idiot for doing this, after all, a real man would of talked to him man to man.

Thisguy, I don't know which night clubs you go to in CT, but the dive bars in CA all let you smoke inside. Tancredo has been there for years and he has 3 air purifiers set up in his office. The dude called the cops because he could smell a cigar, regardless if he is Muslim, Christian or Jewish calling the cops because you smell cigar smoke is FASCIST. And Ellison should have to foot the bill for it.

Cant smoke anywhere in CT. Not even in our own cars anymore. Its "to protect the children." This state seems to follow whatever NY does. Soon I expect we wont be able to walk down the street with an iPod on, we wont be allowed to change the stations on the radio while we drive.

Oh, 9 times out of 10 we cant even smoke outside if there are a certain number of people there or if its some kind of designated function. Thats okay, after all I actively chose to attend that function. But you get my point.

Im putting some cash away so I can move to New Hampshire and help with the Free State Project. At least thats my immediate plan.

Soon I expect to be fined because a traffic camera caught me picking my nose where others could have seen it and hence, have been offended by it.

Tancredo is the one breaking the law here.

and are always trying to USE our Constitution against us.

What does this have to do with the consitution?

What rules is he trying to change?

And how do we know that this wasn't something that had been going on for a long while, with tancredo smoking stinky cigars and polluting the air for everyone for a long while and not stopping even when asked???

If you read the definition of "jihad" from Low Orbit's post, it specifically states that jihad is one's own personal spiritual struggle every day. This is the true meaning of jihad. It is only used in the West to mean a war against another nation. The term is misused here in the West. This is the definition I got from a number of Moslems, and this was way before 911.

Jihad means 'struggle'. Its usage is exactly like that of 'crusade' or 'kampf'. You can have a crusade against drugs, or a crusade for the holy land. You can have a kulturkampf, or kampf between nations. You can have a personal internal jihad against temptation and evil, or you can wage jihad against the enemy in their lands.

Congressmen are allowed to smoke inside their offices inside government buildings look it up. Prove to me ny that smoking was against the law in the first place.

Second, regardless if it was Ellison or one of his staffer's somone is a fascist. It is people like Ellison and/or his staffers that clog up the legal system and abuse public funds and for what, to have someone put out a cigar? He is a congressman and/or a congressional staffer they should be able to practice better judgement than calling the police every time. People in DC call the cops if there is a potential terrorist attack or if someone gets shot, not if someone is smoking a cigar.

From the original source:

Tancredo, who often relaxes with a cigar, is allowed to smoke in his office
...
Rick Jauert, a spokesman for Ellison, said he made the call to complain about the smoke last week.
...
Jauert said he wasn't sure where the smoke was coming from and that the congressman didn't know that he had made the complaint.
...
Ellison suffers from asthma and people in his office are "highly sensitive" to second-hand smoke, Jauert said.

They CAN smoke in their offices and Ellison DID NOT make the call and he didn't even know about it.

The original post's implications and outright accusations are WRONG according to his own source! Take your bigotry elsewhere, Low Orbit.

Why am I a bigot(what did I say), german shepard, please explain yourself. (Thanks for the Personal Attack and may I please see your badge to the PC Police) Staffers are a reflection of the politicians they represent so if you want to say he has nothing to do with it fine, believe what you want. If he didn't even know about it why does the article say he has asthma and a sensitive office.

I guess the congressman and his staffers aren't the only one's who are "highly sensitive" to any form of rhetoric.

Benevolent Heretic thanks for the lack of foresight and insight it really shows! And thanks again for the personal attack.

Well thats just bs on their part. They banned it in other federal buildings, but not their own offices?

Apparently pelosi encated a new rule that gives up the ability to smoke in congress buildings:
blogs.usatoday.com...

Prove to me ny that smoking was against the law in the first place.

Its a fairly well known law, are you saying you've never heard of it or are you sayings its 'invalid' for one reason or another?

I heard about this on the radio this morning and the first thing I thought of was this:
Muslim Cabbies Refuse Passengers With Alcohol Or Dogs

All things being equal, I find it a little hard to believe that a staffer took it upon themselves to call the cops on a more senior politican WITHOUT Ellison's knowledge.
Calling the cops doesn't even seem like the proper thing to do.
It also seems reasonalbe to think that since smoking is allowed in the Congressperson's office, that it is a known fact to others in the building. Especially since smoking in buildings is not usually allowed.

Don't get me wrong, I hate the smell of smoke.
But I hate the government deciding that it is illegal or immoral to smoke whether it is in my home, my car or my private office.

And, did you know there is a movement afoot to make any movie that contains smoking an automatic "R" :shk:

The staffer knew about his bosses asthma. That's pretty common. Ellison didn't know about the call to the police.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize a statement against your message (that I judged as bigotry) would be considered a personal attack. I've seen people say that a hundred times. But I do apologize.

I'd just like to point out that Ellison never apologized for the phone call. Like the Pope's apology for his quote, Ellison only apologized for the situation that resulted, not calling the cops before talking to the representative.

The choice of words was not an accident, and, were I in Ellison's place, I'd be sorry that the media was making me look so bad, too. Just a typical political non-apology apology.

Seriously, how arrogant is this guy? Not only is he a freshman congressman AND a muslim, but he has the cahones to call the capitol police to reports a fellow congreeman for smoking!?
what a case. I saw on CNN that Tancredo even has one of those super pricey air purifiers going all day. This just seems incredibly arrogant that you want someone to stop doing wat they are doing in the privacy of their own office because it bothers you. This dude needs to grow a pair, for real!
