I'm in a nasty situation right now with a good friend of mine who I met at a camp in the summer of 2004. Ever since we met, we have been great friends (we did some... stuff at camp) and we promised eachother that we'd someday see eachother again. We only live an hour and a half away.

Now that I finally got my license I promised her I would go down and teach her how to ski, cuz that's what she's interested in. I talked it over with my parents, and the truth about my father unraveled itself.

My dad was once a pastor and he was voted out of the ELCA because of him being falsely accused of being an alcoholic. The reason was his eyes were always baggy and he was always making petty mistakes, which as in fact because he was an insomniac. Then it was just the snowball effect from there and it escalated and then he was jobless....

It turns out that this girl's father was on the committee that voted my father out of the ELCA. My father made it very clear that he wanted nothing to do with that family and advised that I do the same. He is not letting me travel to see her, and threatened to cancel my cell phone service if I ever called her again.

I don't know what to do now... I love her very much and I don't know how to break it to her that I can't see her for a long time.

If you really dig this gal then it is no business of your father's. I understand that the circumstances surrounding his dismissal are a cause of disdain on his part but that is not something to which you or your paramour had anything to do with. If he is a man of God then what is his stance on forgiveness? If he was dismissed unfairly then he should of fought to get his position back. If he wants to take your cell phone away what's the problem? It's only a phone. Stand your ground and follow your heart my young friend. Good Luck.

Thank you, that really made my day hearing somebody support me.

He did try to get his position back but it turns out few people at his former church really wanted him, so we started attending a different church. Those few loyal people came and became members of our church and he has preached there a few times when the pastor is on holiday. I suppose it's not that bad but we have been short on money for the past while, but hey it will all work out someday so I'm not worrying.

I feel for you 100%

what a horrible situation to be in, but5 stand your ground, Tell your father that you love him and respect him but his issues are in the past and with this girls father not her,

Its easy for us to sit here i know .. much harder in the real world,

But sit your dad down and just talk to him, It may take a few gos but he may just come around when you least expect it,

But tell him nicely that you are growing up and have the right to make your own choices, Maybe ask him to at least meet her,

Good luck, just stay true to your feelings,
