The beginings of UFO investigation

I have come across this official secret document from the MoD dating back to 1951 It seems this is when the Misistry of Defense started taking UFO's seriously.

Although there is nothing extraordinary contained in this document it does show some examples of UFO reports given by military and the public that are almost immediatly debunked!

The Rendlesham forest incident of Christmas 1980 is probably one of the most remarkable UFO incidents on record. It has been dubbed the "British Roswell" but in reality is probably a far more intriguing case. Like the Roswell incident this one occurred close to several top secret military establishments including two air bases. As such the case profile couldn't be higher yet getting at the truth has never been easy. The full answers may never be known, but varying accounts from different people make for a story that is never anything less than sensational. A story that seems to leap straight from the archives of the most exciting X - files episode.

UFO incident at Cosford

Around 1.15am on Wednesday, 31 March 1993 dozens of people across western Britain saw triangular shaped UFOs speeding across the night sky.

Later other sightings came to light from parts of Ireland, northern France and elsewhere in Europe. Unlike many UFO stories, the core collection of sightings – timed between 1.10 and 1.15 am - tallied to a remarkable degree. Most described two bright white lights speeding towards the southeast horizon, leaving trails of luminous vapour in their wake. Some described a third light which gave the impression of triangular shape, but there were a few maverick reports from different times and places that did not fit the pattern.

I agree that Rendlesham was big and is certainly very interesting. For once us Brits have a good story and its not all Roswell and the USA.

I'll take a bit of time to look over the docs you provided over the next couple of days.

It took me a long time to read the reports, to be honest the whole UFO subject has not interested me much but to see how much effort the goverment goes into the investigations make me feel there is more than meets the eye.
