A weapon legality question

.50 cal sniper rifles are not meant to shoot down planes and helicopters.

Someone would have to be extremely lucky to down a commercial aircraft with a fifty cal sniper rifle adn the chances of someone accomplishing said feat is slim to none.

That is a myth perpetuated by anti-gun lobbyists.
