In all my years of driving, I knew how to check my pressure, but I have found some things I did not know.
Did you know that tires can loose 1psi per month under normal conditions?
Additionally, tires can loose 1psi per every 10 degrees F that the temp drops.
Example, July through November, if you don't check it, and then it drops from 90 to 40 degrees F, you lose a combined amount of 10psi.
If your car's gross vehicle weight is 6840lbs, and at 30psi, your tires is carrying 6840lbs.
Now if your gross weight is 6840lbs, and you tires are at 20psi, then your tires are carrying 5610lbs. Your vehicle is overloaded by 1230lbs, the
equivalent to over eight 150lb people (therefore also decreasing gas mileage).
Also infared testing has shown the lower the pressure, the more increased the heat is on the tire.
For a tread check, insert a penny in the tread, Lincoln's head down. If you can see the top of Lincolns head, the treads are worn and need
replacing.
Hopefully this information will help others in increasing the life of their tires and decrease the likability of a blow out.
