Bayer knowingly distributed AIDS tainted injectable blood clotting medicine used by hemophiliacs (mostly children) to save their life. The hemophiliacs looking for a chance to survive, was injected with AIDS into their bloodstream causing them a certain death. By doing so they transmitted the disease to loved ones, unknowingly. Bayer had the FDA keep the findings under wrap to turn profit on a failed product into millions of dollars. The product was taken off the market in the United States and dumped into Asian, Latin American, and some European countries in the mid-1980s. Officials behind the distribution in the foreign countries were charged and sentenced to jail time for the cover up, while American officials received nothing. Twenty years ago the FDA would not allow Bayer to infect the American population, can we ensure the same faith in them today?

First, let's get the terminology straight. No one can be "injected with AIDS". AIDS is a syndrome, HIV is the virus.

Second, the actual virus, HIV, wasn't formally discovered or even known for sure to BE a virus until 1983-4 (the year Bayer started shipping those products). The first antibody test for HIV wasn't created until AFTER Bayer shipped the blood products in 1985.

So, please tell me how a company can screen for something they don't know the nature of. Seems a little silly to me.

Yes the company did start in Germany.
Bayer did knowingly ship out contaminated blood products. So my EXACT terminology may be incorrect, my information however, is not. Bayer knowingly distributed these tainted products a year after they dicontinued the sale of the products in the US. I'm sure you will find all the info you need in the TWO Wikipedia articles on the topic. As well as other incriminating evidence against the company (on completely unrelated topics). Are you going to stand against MSNBC broadcasts and Wikipedia History. How is it that you seem to "know" so much more then these people?!

The documents are available that say they knew this product was contaminated.. They were taken to the government by solicitors who summoned access to them. The above link to the televised report also mentions that the government allowed the drug to be sold OUTSIDE america.. I dont think you must have watched it.. Just commented on it. UNREAL.. so much for thinking globally.. The American Government doesnt give a stuff about the people across nations.. so long as the american capatalists are having their pockets lined. EVEN at the expense of someones life or quality of life. Time and time again we are seeing evidence of this.

As for shedding light, this story tells itself. I was only presenting it. I can see though, that some people (bsl4doc) just can't get enough of a topic. They are still here defending the poor, innocent pharma company, even when facts are laid out for them.

Also, I guess this topic could have some dust blown off of it for the newcomers who may not know. It's always nice to have a refresher course.

Yeah, the previous discussion went on for days in a circular argument with people presenting facts in the case an others who simply ignore those facts in their defense of big pharma. I finally gave up.

But, if you decide to continue to try and get it through their thick skulls that Bayer essentially commited murder, then all I can say is... I wish you the best of luck!

Having said that, the whole story is being misrepresented at least here in Texas, because in the fine print, it says parents will be allowed to opt out for "medical, philosophical, religious or moral reasons".
Much ado about nothing. But as for the right to choose, always fight to keep them folks.
