Skull Abnormalities

I would like to profess that I have a spike in the back of my head. It's more or less, a bone spurr...at the base of my skull...almost like a tail, but not that big. You can't see it unless my head is shaved, but you can feel it. It's bone...it's been there since I was born...any ideas?? My doctor has no idea...he thinks maybe a calcium deposit, but I've had no rear skull injuries...

Anyone have any ideas???

The feature is called the "inion" and is part of the region of attachment for what's called the "nuchal muscles". The shape of the inion is slightly different in men and women, and is one of the methods of determining a male skull from a female skull.

W have lots of lumps and bumps and interesting things on our skulls and bodies, but we're not used to examining them in close detail as a rule.

I hope it's not a tail, because they went out in the 80's.
