Demon is a english term used in reference to malevolent spiritual entities.
Yet it may be applied by people to other spirits who may not be malevolent. This comes from confusion over the origin of the word. Demon originates from the Greek word Daimon. Daimons were neutral spirits in Greek lore. The Greeks did believe in evil and good Daimons. Agathodaimons were considered good and Cacodaimons considered evil.
The modern usage of the term not the actual word originates from the Bible where it was used by translators in place of various Hebrew words meaning malevolent spirits.

The various entities translated as Demons are considered mostly malevolent with a few exceptions. The demon Asmodeus is thought to be benevolent at times but malevolent at others. Lilith, who is not a true demon but actually an Immortal, is considered to be a Queen of demons. Her children the Lilim are considered demons and thought to be malevolent towards humans. The souls of the Nephilim, the giants from Genesis, are considered demons and are either malevolent or insane. Satyrs and fauns are also mentioned and translated in the Bible as demons, but seem to be some type of nature spirits. They are considered malevolent or potentially dangerous which is consistant with Greek and Roman myths about Satyrs and Fauns.

There are other powerful spiritual entities mentioned in the Bible or pseudo Biblical texts, which are called demons by the misinformed but they are not described as such. The first of these is Azazel who is the reciever of the scapegoat on the Day of Atonement. Azazel is not a demon he is a "fallen" or damned angel. According to the Book of Enoch he lead a group of angels, whose sole purpose was to monitor humanity, in corrupting humans and spawning the half human/angel Nephilim. The Nephilim's souls as I said above became demons after death. Another misleading being is The Satan, who according to Job is neither fallen or damned. He is thought to be like a Prosecutor and may be considered malevolent towards humans. He is not a demon though. He is an angel.
The Third misunderstood figure is Helel Ben Shaher from Isaiah, you know him as Lucifer. Lucifer in fact is the name of a minor Roman god who is the Son of Venus. Helel Ben Shaher or Helel Son of Shaher is the proper name of this figure. Helel if read in context is mentioned in apocalyptic prophecy. He is the Son of Shaher which is the name of the Canaanite god of the Dawn. In Canaanite mythology Shaher is one of two Sons of El who are twins. El happens also to be a name used for G-d in the Bible. Shaher was the god of Dawn, while his brother Shalem was the Prince of Peace and twilight. From this I gather that Shaher in the Bible is likely a celestial of some sort like Azazel and that Helel is like the Nephlim. When read in context it appears he is some type of global tyrant who decieves the whole world and claims he is greater than the Supreme Being. You can compare it to other verses in the Bible speaking about the Abomination of Desolation and the Little Horn of the Great Beast. The point being is that Lucifer/Helel is not a demon, yet.

A usually bad. The few exceptions are ones that got boring being bad and decided for one reason or another not to be. There are also one who choose not to be. But around 99.999999 are bad or at least doing good for themselves.

Take the concept of the comic "Spawn", a hell spawn who chooses not to be bad except to bad people

It all depends on what you call demons.

The demonology was a term originaly used for benevolent beings but now demonology is understood as the study malevolant beings. So I think you'll be hard pressed finding the answer
