this is a preview of an article published in the Jan 27 issue of New Scientist that I stole from work.

www.newscientist.com...

according to this article

The question is no longer if the seasons affect your health, but how

a brief summary states that if you live in the northern hemisphere and were born in either February or March you could be prone to schizophrenia...while those born in April have a triple whammy with an increased chance of developing schizophrenia/anorexia and committing suicide

May and June are equally distressing months to be born in due to the "fact" that, again, chances of committing suicide or developing anorexia nervosa are increased as are the chances of being cursed with dyslexia.
...if your born in July than your equally likely to develop dyslexia.

Getting yourself born in September, October, November or December could mean that you'll have to deal with a panic disorder, while if your a male and born in either September, October or November than you may end up an alcoholic.

I was born in January
in the northern hemisphere and those of us northerners born in January or August are, according to the pie chart in the corner of the third page, unnaffected by the seasonal curses.

so...when were you born?

edit: put mental in front of health in title and something else fixed

i did a chart once of when i was born, and was surprised to see that some of it, described me quite well.

though probably genes have more effect, it is amazing to think that small traces of electromagnetic energies may effect who you are and what sort of person you are.

don't know if this studt is true, but if it is i am in for a triple whammy.

does anyone have the full article.

WEll, from the looks of the article it doesn't matter much which month you are born in ... you are screwed no matter what.

LOL FF I came to the same conclusion. I was born in June and have none of the depressing attributions connected to the month, according to this article.

PS> What is wrong with the title OP? Did you mean to say "when was you"

I can't be bothered to type up the whole thing but I'll add some of the stats that I left out in the original post.

We now know that for people born in the northern hemisphere in February, March and April, the risk of developing schizophrenia is between 15 and 10 per cent greater than those born at other times of the year.

A little scary? Maybe...but I find this more interesting:

...the increased risk of schizophrenia that comes with a winter birthday is almost twice the increase in risk linked to having a parent or sibling with the disorder.

I never thought too much of that old "it runs in the family" thing anyway.

A recent study of more than 25,000 suicides in England and Wales found that 17 percent more people who had committed suicides had birthdays in April, May and June than in the rest of the year.

Interesting? Is this meaningful?

...people with anorexia in the northern hemisphere are 13 per cent more likely to be born between April and June than other months....Autumn birthdays are associated with an 8 per cent increase in the likelihood of suffering panic attacks...and a small but significant increase in alcoholism in men.

so it's all very "significant"...the rest of the article goes on the theorise about the possible causes of all this...temperature...viral diseases...how much sunshine the pregger is exposed to...and it's extremely interesting but unless someone else chimes in your just gonna have to miss out.

I think this is what Vedic astrology is all about..
The system is based on the time, place and date of your birth and it basically can tell you mental, physical and emotional health.

I'd like to know what it says of people born in January in the southern hemisphere.

it doesn't go too deeply into the southern hemisphere only to say that the seasons correlate. For example if January is a mid summer month in your area than i'd say that possible suicide/anorexia/dyslexia curse applies.

this is good:

...a sample of people with anorexia from Singapore, where the temperature remains constant at over 25 Degree Celsius all year round...found no season-of-birth effect at all.

interesting...

I personally think that environment is more important than genes. This is one downside about being born in Jan.

Men with depression showed season-of-birth effects for the serotonin gene - more were born in January - as did men with bipolar disorder for the TPH gene.

what if you were born in Jan as a female but were injected with male hormones your entire life like frankie in The Wasp Factory?

Women with schizophrenia showed season-of-birth effects for the dopamine gene, with an excess born in October and fewer in April.

interesting...I think I'm going to have to steal this magazine more often. I just read another decent article about a swede who repeated the Supersize Me experiment under more scientific conditions and it proved to affect different people in different ways. Apparently:

some people are just more susceptible to obesity than others
...of course I knew that anyway...

"April" here, (the consumate Earth sign/person)

But !, i see schizophrenia as a bonus rather than a disability,
still..... that's my considered opinion.

i love how the metaphysical 'Astrology' is being re-wrapped
with all these bean-counter relationships, that seem scientific & factual.

pretty much using the same re-packaging
that was sucessful in presenting 'Remote-Viewing' as the new kid-on-the-block, while 'spiritual journeys' & 'OBEs' were depicted as passe' and just 'So-Old-world'

to my experience, every person wields their own decision/free will
which trumps the nature-vs-nurture element (unless the person is a severely mental deficient person) & cannot plot-&-scheme au'natural

thanks for your ear,

I was born in May in the Southern hemisphere. I guess that's the same as December in the Northern Hemisphere.

So I'll be having panic attacks eh? Lol. Trust me, I do not panic over ANYTHING.
