While everyone is worried about those terrorists from the Cartoon Network, the White House is facing major accusations of cover up and censorship.

WASHINGTON — Federal scientists have been pressured by the White House to play down global warming, advocacy groups testified Tuesday at the Democrats' first investigative hearing since taking control of Congress.

The hearing focused on allegations that White House officials for years have micromanaged the government's climate programs and has closely controlled what scientists have been allowed to tell the public.
...

"It appears there may have been an orchestrated campaign to mislead the public about climate change," said Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif. Waxman is chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee and a critic of the Bush administration's environmental policies, including its views on climate.

In Washington, lawmakers are arguing whether U.S. scientists are being allowed to tell the truth.

"I think many of us are being misled, we cannot stand for it."

At a hearing of Congress, scientists and advocacy groups described a campaign by the White House to remove references to global warming from scientific reports and limit public mention of the topic to avoid pressure on an administration opposed to mandatory controls on greenhouse gas emissions.

Such pressure extended even to the use of the words "global warming" or "climate change", said a report released yesterday by the Union of Concerned Scientists and the Government Accountability Project. The report said nearly half of climate scientists at government agencies had been advised against using those terms.
...
In the survey of 1,600 government scientists by the Union of Concerned Scientists, 46% had been warned against using terms like global warming in speech or in their reports. The scientists interviewed were working at seven government agencies, from Nasa to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Nearly 800 government scientist are claiming that they have been told which terms they can use. I suppose someone out there will be bold enough to say that they are lying or have an agenda. This argument can't hold forever and 800 is a lot of scientists.
Nearly 800 government scientists have had their work redone to completely alter the meaning of their findings.

Why is this happening? Why does the government need to put a muzzle on science?
We are talking about the future of all the people on the Earth. What is being held of more importance than our very lives?

its amazing that fear mongering from the government is in everything else, but when it comes to the weather and the white house, they close shop.

what fear mongering is only any good to them if its good for profits.

darkbluesky, only recently and only because the Exxon barrier was broken thanks to a few stubborn people around the world. 90% of the denial was coming out of America. Now that the Exxon connection has been cut off America is catching up with the rest of the world.
And the world should be Global Freakin Warming Nuts. We needed solutions for this ten years ago.

BTW there is more information on this ATSNN article.

this has nothing to do with exxon, which was a standard oil sub, founded circa 1870. Wow, big deal, you found out something new everyday.

The gov isnt putting a muzzle on science but limiting funding into research that'll be used as junk science one way or the other, somebody like Al Gore.

How many of these 'scientists' were complaining when the clinton administration was dictating the outcomes of NSF funded research?

Or when the clinton administration told the various land and natural resource agencies the preferred alternatives of environmental impact studies before the studies were even begun?
