Not true! "Have you or anyone you know been tear gassed, beaten, hosed, or had rubber bullets fired at you lately?" Have YOU?
When Bush was elected, NYC was in a police state due to protestors. EVERY citizen was affected even if you weren't a part of the everyday random
protests, but happened to be passing by or near it, which is almost unavoidable in Manhattan; it was very easy for you to be mistaken as part of it
because both sides - protestors and police were on "high alert."
Example: my girlfriend and I were were shopping and I lived near Union Square which is a major hotspot of every day life and protestors were there
every day and so were police. The protestors were testing the police on rights (protest lawyers were observing in flourescent yellow t-shirts) by
marching the sidewalks as law says you cannot protest on the streets without a permit. We tried 3 different streets and protest lines were going here
and there and police were doing moving barricades. We got fed up ...I walked to a policeman with my bags and roller blades and they instructed us and
one other fellow to stay put and don't worry, they know we're not part of it. DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED?
Eventually some of the protestors went onto the street and that was it. The police forcefully orderedand pushed all of them onto the wall within
seconds, where we were standing ... and started "twistying" everyones hands together qagainst the walls. We looked at the cop, saw him, said can we
go? He said stay where you are, I'll be right back. We waited, saw him again, and said hello? Can we go? He IGNORED US?? I looked at him and his
face was blank, his eyes were glassy and he pretended not to hear me or know us anymore! Believe this guy?! We WERE getting arrested with these
idiot protestors - you should have seen the look on their faces to... they were singing a different tune when they realized how serious their
situation was now.
[(IF YOU HAVEN"T BEEN IN JAIL IN NYC YOU DON"T KNOW... OVER 19 MILLION PEOPLE LIVE HERE. IF YOU WERE ARRESTED ESPECIALLY DURING THIS TIME.. YOU
COULD BE THERE FOR DAYS WITHOUT ANYONE KNOWING WHERE YOU WERE). That 1 phone call - it's not necessarily true! Either the payphone doesn't work or
they tell you you'll get it later and they confiscate your cell phone THEN THROW YOU IN A CELL WITH A BUNCH OF PEOPLE - hardcore criminals,
degenerates and more stable people ALL together; they don't care. They dismantled my cell one time when I was arrested in an altercation with some
"weed smoking" taxi drivers and I couldn't call anyone. I HAD TO CAUSE A SCENE IN THE CELL and one "punk" wanted to fight me because of this,
but I scared him when he realized I wasn't a pussy dressed up in a suit]
BACK TO PROTEST STORY:
I got mad, started talking to the cop while he ignored me and said where's the police chief? Do I look like these idots I shouted. I have shopping
bags and roller blades for gods sake, do I look like a protestor??! He ignored me, however, from the line of cops in front of me, one guy started a
stare down with me and I started focusing my argument to him while he stood quietly. This guy, had the sense and broke "the code of silence amongst
his peers" to read into my eyes (he must have saw the anger and truth in my eyes) to go get his captain without saying a word to me.
Captain came, talked to us and dismissed all three of us. I spoke out for me, my "mum" girlfriend and the stranger. They felt helpless, not me...
hat's right is right. The cop who had originally told us to stand there, then went deaf, dumb and blind on me, never looked at me after this, I'm
sure he felt like an ass... I gave him a stare to remind him he was a piece of # human being and I know he felt it.
The cop who finally gave in and thought to do the right thing... do you know what he told me? "I saw in your eyes you were telling the truth."
Don't generalize you have nothing to worry about.
