I hopelessly confused.
There's too much on the string theory and yet no one can just put it in terms that random dummies can get. What is the string theory?!

The best string theory page I've read is the "official" string theory website.
superstringtheory.com...
You can choose either basic or advanced explainations, with accompaning images in various places.
