i just mean things like the following, interesting how people are not saying the holocaust(i am sure something like it did happen), stalin killing 60 million, chinese killing 100 million, pol pot and those mass graves.

interesting how just because the news controls what we see and read, we say things like jfk, although that was only one man, when you consider stalin killed 60 million. people just are not shocked by these numbers and do not find them as troubling as katrina or 911.

we are all sure that things happen that are really bad, but they do not tell us.

No doubt that the scariest period in my lifetime (I'm nearly 41) was the height of the cold war in the late 70s / early 80s. Watching Govt information films on how to hide under a table and how we'd all slowly die from radiation poisoning anyway ...

Forget Al Qaeda, they're pussycats compared with the very real day to day fear that a thousand nuclear missiles could rain down on you.

Not only that, but we had the IRA blowing us up at random every week to boot.

In my experience, the 21st century is a much safer place.

Current History - I'll make that 'in my lifetime' because 'current history' is subjective.

- Cuban Missile Crisis
- 9/11
- Nancy Pelosi being 2 heart beats from the Oval Office (she's a flake)
- North Korea Nuclear Test (and it's breaking agreements, and it's rhetoric)
- IRAN (the rhetoric, the religious fanatics, the whacked leadership)
- The rise of radical extremist Islam
- The Tsunami (reminds us of how small and insignificant we really are)
- Clinton claiming that he'd run the USA by Executive Order, and Bush saying that he makes the final decisions.
- The murder by legalized starvation of Terry Shiavo (disabled persons .. be afraid!)
- Pandemic (bird flu?) probability which will most likely unfold.

I'm gonna have to say "The rise of reality television" would be up there somewhere.

Other than that probably 9/11 (Made the west see how vulnerable we actually are, and the continual media coverage/propaganda it created), I could list a whole bunch of other events i find scary or at least discomforting but i'd really just be repeating what has already been said.

9-11-01
JFK Assasination
MLK assasination
Jonestown

Spiderj
That was me signing off not putting myself on the list...plus that would be eleven.
