people often cite that the prevalence of a flood myth among vastly seperate and varying cultures is some sort of evidence to support that a worldwide
flood event happened
even the norse work it into their story of creation (though it was a flood of gore coming from a frost giant, but that's neither here nor there)
however
if you look into the commonalities that world mythos share, it's not that big of a deal that there are so many flood myths
just look at the works of joseph campbell
his best point is that almost every civilization has a "fire theft" myth
in which a hero, animal, or deity steals fire from "on high" to give to humanity
normally this theft is followed by a relay race
does that mean that we stole fire?
