Racism Galore In The UK. Colonial Mindset In The 21st Century!!

Is it a stray incident or something sinister that reflects the psyche of the ‘stiff upper lip’ British?

More than half a century after they were unceremoniously thrown out from South Asia, some Brits still haven’t got out of the straitjacket. That they still think of South Asia as slaves to the Brits is totally out of sync with reality.

These worthies should know that Britain is a ‘Sunset Power’, on a downward spiral, with a growth rate less than hair on a bald man’s head. Whereas India and China are the emerging giants growing at an incredible 10%!

So all this racial slur being indulged in by these worthies needs to be out rightly condemned.

So what’s all this about? It’s about a reality show called Celebrity Big Brother being broadcast in the UK, where India’s popular movie actress, Shilpa Shetty is taking part.

Celebrity Big Brother 2007 is the fifth series of the United Kingdom reality television series Celebrity Big Brother, a spin-off of Big Brother. The series is currently broadcasting on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom (also on S4C in Wales), and involves a number of celebrities known as housemates, who live in the Big Brother House with no contact with the outside world.

Now this is how it unfolded…

Jade Goody's mother, Jackiey, repeatedly referred to Shilpa as "the Indian".

Jo implied that all Indians were thin because they were always ill as a result of undercooking their food because she believed Shilpa undercooked a chicken meal.

Referring to Shilpa using hair bleaching cream on her face, Danielle said "she's trying to make her face look white."

In an argument between Jade and Shilpa, as witnessed by Danielle and Jo, Jade was derogatory about India by referring to Shilpa as a 'princess of Neverland'.

After an argument between Shilpa and Jade, witnessed by a giggling Jo and Danielle, Danielle recommended Shilpa "just fu*k off home".

After an argument between Jade and Shilpa, Jade referred to Shilpa's sari as "a duvet".

Jack Tweed allegedly called Shilpa Shetty a "fu**ing Paki" though Channel 4 has stated that he called her cu*t, not a Paki. (Shilpa is an Indian and NOT a Pakistani. Gross ignorance). And why do most Brits call South Asians ‘Paki’? Real dumb, to say the least!!

Now if this isn’t gross racism, what is? Thank heavens not all Brits are Ill-mannered brats! But the others need to change their mindset. And sooner, the better.

Flagging up Jade Goody and her ilk as representative of the UK population with regards to race or anything else for that matter is rather like presenting a thugee as an example of Indian hospitality, not very fair and rather biased in itself I think. It's also a probable indication of the British psyche with regards to bullying (which I think this is more about) and racism that over 20 thousand complaints have been made with regards to the behaviour of the contestants towards Shilpa, while Jade, Danielle and Jo O'Meara (herself almost driven to suicide by school bullies years ago, and who is, I suspect, going along with this more out of fear of Jade than any personal feelings towrds Shilpa) can probably kiss goodbye to any careers they might have been building, so reviled are they right now by the British public.

Whilst I agree with the reply above, there are also some other points worth making in regard to this episode, which has been blown out of proportion by the media.

A clear case of bullying and nastiness, yes. Racist, why? for instance;

Was Shilpa not the only Indian contestant in the house? Therefore this is an accurate comment. Since when has 'Indian' been a racist remark? It is no different from describing other contestants as 'the scouser' or 'the Geordie' or wherever they happen to be from.

In an argument between Jade and Shilpa, as witnessed by Danielle and Jo, Jade was derogatory about India by referring to Shilpa as a 'princess of Neverland'.

'Princess of Neverland' was a reference to Shilpa's privileged posh background being brought up in a palatial big house far removed form the real poverty that exists on the streets of her own country and not a reference to India in itself. Frankly, only someone with an agenda could get this wrong.

Now this has been a racist remark directed at minorities *living* in the UK in the past, but lets examine the circumstances. In this case Shilpa's home *is* in India, she is not a resident of the UK. Therefore how can it be racist?

Since when has sarcastic commentary on clothingi constituted racism? That is pure bitchiness, nothing more.

Now if this isn’t gross racism, what is?

If you regard the above examples as 'gross racism' you either have an agenda against the UK yourself or have lived in a Neverland of your own and genuinely have no idea how ugly and disgusting real racism is.

But wait! What about your own post?

You clearly have no problem posting derogative remarks of your own directed at the UK, even your title ignorantly proclaims the 'colonial mindset', despite the fact that the UK has not been a colonial power for more than half a century. Are you racist?

And this;

An example please? Just one? Given that nothing in your original post even hints at this outrageously silly conclusion?

Perhaps a better indication of the opinions of the UK public at large might have been that when Jade Goody was proclaimed to be "a waste of skin and organs" by Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear, it recieved the biggest and most sustained cheer of the entire show. But maybe that doesn't fit YOUR agenda Mike?
