F-16's over D.C.

Anyone know why F-16's would be patrolling over Washington D.C. area today?
My usual sources are either still in bed or hungover from last night

I know they did that after 9/11. Maybe a precursor to something else. But they also scramble jets to intercept private pilots in their little cessnas when they fly to close to Dubya's ranch, so go figure.

Looks like it is some sorta training exercises.

Training

4 Days worth, starting on the 13th.

"Citizens throughout the region may hear aircraft noise at various times, to include early morning and late night hours, over the four days," a NORAD news release said. The exercise, one of a series held by NORAD throughout the United States and Canada, is aimed at testing the command's ability to respond rapidly to threats, officials said.

are you sure they are patroling? they might just be training. andrews AFB is close to washington dc. military aircraft arent on patrol all the time.

thats wierd cause i seen around 8-10 palnes over my house tonight on the way home. I actually think there were more but i only counted 10. Really high so they count be helecopters and still to high to be planes landing at the local airport???

On a similar note....anyone know why there would be a fighter over Melbourne (Aus) with a helicopter or it was tailing the helicopter...this was about wednesday last week. It sounded like a F/A-18...it was too small to be F-111...not sure about the chopper but it was at about 2 in the am..it was odd there was no reason for a single fighter to be out at that time unless the pilot went AWOL!!!
