Just a question for everyone reading this:

What is the go with everyone trying to dig stuff up about this Brian Burke character? I've never heard of him, yet in the past few days there has been all these calls for Rudd to stand down because he talked to him! Whats the big deal?

I am pleased with the appointment of Rudd as Oppositon Leader. There was no way Beazley would have beaten Howard. Barring another miracle like the Howard government received in 2001 with September 11, I feel Labour is now certain to win government later this year.

Personally, I would prefer Peter Garrett to be PM, but it is extremely unlikely, so at least on the front bench he should have some influence. Three of the most important issues at the moment are Global Warming, Ties with the US and relations with neighbouring countires in our region, particularly Indonesia. On all three of these issues, Garrett is ideal to handle them. Limiting coal production is a must, distancing ourselves from the US, particularly whilst under the control of the Bush administration, and taking a more understanding approach with the perspectives of our neighbouring countries are winning stategies, that I believe Garrett shares.

In regards to Brian Burke, Howard has shot himself in the foot with this one. By attacking Rudd's judgement, he has left himself wide open for criticism on his alarming lack of judgement on two of the most prominent issues of the current political landscape. War in Iraq, where he has endangered the lives and wellbeing of all Australians by blindly supporting the failed strategies of the Bush administration without challenge, and Global Warming, where even now, he is still someone reluctant to admit that it is a reality.

P.S. Great to finally find a forum covering Australian Politics!

Are you serious with regards to Peter Garrett? I think I have answered my own question, you ARE. What credentials does Peter Garrett have to be considered as the Prime Minister material? Please share this, I am interested.

Global warming - the biggest con job of the 21st century. Before everyone jumps down my throat, we need to manage the environment to enable us to manage pollution but this will do nothing to help us address Global Warming. Then again, it has created new careers for a number of people of little note.

I believe I already stated what credentials Peter Garrett has in my last post in regards to the three major issues I pointed out. As far as the economy and other issues, a team of front benchers can assist the PM in this regard. The most important credential to be PM as far as I am concerned, is the genuine desire to act in the best interests of the people being governed. This is a credential very few, if any, PM's hold. However, Garrett has shown throughout his music career, that he has a very real passion for Australia, it's people and of course, the environment.

As far as global warming goes, I'm not relly sure what point you are trying to make, but developing renewable energy is the key.

I'm not sure if i agree about Garrett for PM, but at least we agree on the party!

In Australian Politics news, the latest polls show the gap widening between Labor and Liberal, as both the Proffered PM and Proffered party go deeper and deeper into Labor territory.

It is the worst Howard's rating has been since his term in office started.

What a humiliation for the Howard government, this whole Brian Burke scandal has turned out to be! It was supposed to be a well orchestrated attack on Kevin Rudd's leadership credentials, instead it has revealed numerous shady dealings by goverment members. Perhaps this will serve as a warning that Little Johnny should stick to policies, not mudslinging.
