What I found interesting was how he did it to a 16 year old under age youth when he was 22.

Now a days he'd get 5 to 7 years for that.

What a fraud he is...was... will allways be, now that the truth is out.

Of course if he did it today and everything else being equal, he would be a hero. Says a lot about the times if you ask me.

Maybe I am the stupid one here but has the paternity of this child been proven at all or has he admitted to this? Seems a waste of time to attack someone without knowing for sure.

The US is a very rascist country, but in a passive agressive physcological style. It's just that is some parts of the country, they don't necessarily feel obligated to keep it too deep under the surface.

Yeah....I know this from personal experience if you know what I mean....

Anyway, I don't think he's any kind of hero. He founded the Dixiecrat party. Nothing he did afterward, no false turn-arounds, can make up for that. Nothing can make up for the hate and intolerance he stirred up (or brought out) for political gain. # the old dead bastard.

He's going to have to be a saint in his next few lives to make up for this one.

Ferget it. It's hotter than 30 hells where he's at and he's got his skin peeled off and covered with gasoline.

I'm hopeless!

Just when I thought I was figuring this stuff out?

Does anyone wonder about the timing of this announcement at all?

By the way, how the heck did he keep getting elected to the Senate? What kind of idiotic people would continuously vote for that racist mummy? I know the answer....but I just can't wrap my mind around it.

I've wondered the same thing.

As a South Carolinian I'll give you a little insight. People in the South value heritage. They are also comfortable in knowing that their Senator is not going to do anything radical to affect the constituents. As a big weight puller in the senate, pork barrelling was easy and it helped the state. Don't just automatically assume:

Oh duh, he's an racist who holds the record for longest filibuster against the 1956 Civil Rights Act, therefore his supporters are racist, inbred South Carolinians.

Come on people, have more faith in humanity. Strom was a loveable ol' chap and he was like family to a lot of voters. If you look at South Carolinian politics you will see that alot of our politicians are OLD. It's just the style, nothing racist about it. I wouldn't vote for Strom because I believed he would attempt to repeal the Civil Rights Act, or any other racially motivated reason. I feel offended, well not really, but I should be. Stereotyping a group of 4 million people is not very well thought out.

*EDIT: I think my mom voted for Strom and she's a nutjob left winger like me.
