I was reading a book on modern history (20th century), and I came across a table on all the nobel peace prizes every given out (up to 1996) and the Quakers got it in 1947. I will try to find out why, but I would like peoples thoughts in the meantime.

Why is this in Secret Societies? What, do you think that the Society of Friends is a secret society bent on dominating the world. Listen, as a Quake I feel proud that we got a nobel prize. Its not that surprising really. Quakers are some of the most compassionate, pacifistic people. We are not who you think we are. When most people think quaker, they think buggies and butter churning. This is wrong, those are the amish. Quakers are not luddites. They are completely up to date with modern society, they just wish that it could be a little more friendly and peaceful.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean that the Quakers are bad just that it was interesting that a Secret Society would get the nobel prize for peace. Plus I wanted to find out what they got it for.

Uhh, Quakers, secret society?

Look in your local phone directory for something called a 'friends meeting house' thats your local quakers meeting place, it's far from secret and it's not a society. Anyone including you is welcome to go along, they're places of contemplative meditation and fellowship, nothing more.

Your notion of them being secret is just your lack of knowledge about them talking.

'follow' is a misleading word, but if you are really interested then this link might be of some interest to you.
