Looks like Israel is not the only ones eyeing an attack on Iran.

www.informationclearinghouse.info
01/15/07 "MosNews" -- -- U.S. Navy nuclear submarines maintaining vigil off the coast of Iran indicate that the Pentagon’s military plans include not only control over navigation in the Persian Gulf but also strikes against Iranian targets, a former commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Eduard Baltin has told the Interfax news agency.

“The presence of U.S. nuclear submarines in the Persian Gulf region means that the Pentagon has not abandoned plans for surprise strikes against nuclear targets in Iran. With this aim a group of multi-purpose submarines ready to accomplish the task is located in the area,” Admiral Baltin said.

He made the comments after reports that a U.S. submarine collided with a Japanese tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

“American patience is not unlimited,” he said. “The submarine commanders go up to the periscope depth and forget about navigation rules and safety measures,” the admiral said.

Currently there is a group of up to four submarines in the Persian Gulf area, he said. So far they only control navigation in the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and in the Arabian Sea, he said. They might receive different orders in future: to block off the Gulf of Oman, that is the Iranian coast, and, if need be, launch missile strikes against ground targets in Iran, he said.

I am not in and never have been in the military so I can not confim the comments made by Admiral Baltin. I know this did not supprise me. Might explain the Iraq "surge"

If the U.S captures or finds more Iranian citizens in Iraq they better be cautious they've been warned by the V.P. Hopefully nothing will happen.

This does not surprise me at all, but nice find.

Think of it, the US has 1 battle group in PG, and an Expeditionary force-like battle group with marines with another battle group headed there.

My point is they could be used to protect the fleet, intercept Iranian/?, other subs or any other "Hostile" ships.

The reality is that the Iranian Pres may have bit off far more than he can chew.

They "could” be used in support of an Israeli attack/return from attack on Iranians nuclear sites/military sites

Don't forget Syria.

While Iran and the world look at US ships on the water, US subs could be looking at/targeting Syria/Syrian forces.

Just a thought.

It's almost sad to see this objective former Russian admiral take advantage of the ignorant like this. One US SSN in the Gulf means imminent war with Iran. Guess we've been at war with them since 1979.

After reading that article at the source, what basis does this Russian have for stating that the US is preparing a missile strike on Iran, implying that it is IMMINENT? Because the things said in no way provided any hard evidence. The force is there doing it's thing, sure, and as part of that, they no doubt have a plan. But to suggest by this article that is imminent, for sure, is pure conjecture.

Now if he backed that up with military evidence of some kind that made sense, might be a different story. Also, that's mosnews...Careful...
