Moscow, January 20, 1999. Nicolai Novichkov, ITAR-TASS information agency

Research team of the Recearch Center named after M.V. Keldysh has developed new technologies allowing dramatic decrease in aircrafts' radar observability.
Russian approach to low observability (LO) technologies is completely different from US Stealth and offers complete furtiveness of the protected object at a significantly lower price.
An exclusive interview about these technologies was conducted by Nicolai Novichkov, ITAR-TASS with director of the Center, academic of Russian Scientific Academy Anatoliy Korteev.

As academic explained, American approach to LO (Stealth technology) applied on B-2, F-117A, and fifth generation fighter F-22 "Raptor" is based on the following principles.
The airframes of these aircrafts are designed to minimize their radar cross section (RCS), avoid all possible elements of the structure, which could reflect electromagnetic radiation.
In order to minimize reflected radiation radio absorbing materials (RAM) are also applied to the surface of the structure. The main drawbacks of the Stealth technology are its negative effects on the flight and agility characteristics of the stealth aircrafts.

What does everyone think about this type of stealth, also what are your thoughts on when this technogoly will be deployed? I think it will be a good 10-20 years.

i agree with this one, in couple of years f22 and f117 type stealth will be pretty useless.

What if it already is?
I'm not talking against a 3rd world country. I'm sure Russia has its own secrets as well.

radar technology always developed fast, lol imagine b2 and f22 getting shot down in n0rth korea and iran

the american public will hold the F-22 in high esteem when IRAN and SYRIA start shooting them apart

Stealth or no stealth, the F-22 is better than anything the Russians can currently field.....
Look up JOUST computer simulations and one will see that the Raptor has a kill rate on 10:1 over a Su-35. What would it be on a Su-37? 9:1?

If the Russians weren't worried about the Raptor, they wouldn't be trying to counter it, would they?

Did you even read the artical you wanker?

"Russian approach to low observability (LO) technologies is completely different from US Stealth and offers complete furtiveness of the protected object at a significantly lower price."

They have to have this "significantly lower price" because they can't afford to deploy and maintain a US type system, so they have to use a cheaper system!

This is the main point Russian...pretty self-evident what it is implying and saying:
"They have to have this "significantly lower price" because they can't afford to deploy and maintain a US type system, so they have to use a cheaper system!"

I think your taking this all wrong. Its all a matter of costs and what one can afford to do and not do.

hmm maybe this is all true, i mean wut if your forced to use the equivilent of an advanced system only cheaper and easier? wouldnt it bring about a new field of technology? and russian is right, because the Russians are forced into this position, they have developed a more efficient and cheaper stealth, now the only prob would be to actually put it in the air. costs are now done, what about the actual thing?

First of all, I think you choose a poor title for your post!

Now about the technical aspect of the technology. Plasma may not be as low tech as it seems:www.aeronautics.ru... " target="_blank" class="postlink" rel="nofollow">Plasma and Stealth

I found this while doing research on the B-2 Antigravity Research Project. In case you don't have time to read it right now, here's the jest of it:
Radar Absorbing Materials (RAM) work by generating and holding a plasma field around the aircraft. It is accutaly this plasma field that absorbs and cancels out the incoming RADAR energy.

So the Russians are using the same principal we use on our stealth in the USA, they are just appling it in a diffrent way then we do.

So do your homework on the topic, before you make a clame Raptor!

Tim
