Appropriately, Sen. McCain and Sen. Lieberman spoke before the AEI - American Enterprise Institute - one of those Right Wing think tanks that urged us
to go to war in Iraq, it was no wonder. Both Sen. McCain and Sen. Lieberman are the kind of hawks the AEI just loves!
Sen. McCain called for 6 more brigades in Iraq “until the mission is accomplished.” 5 in Baghdad, 1 in Anbar Province. The mission is to pacify
and stabilize Baghdad and the region around it sufficiently that reconstruction can begin and civil governance can be restored and maintained under
Iraqi control. McCain averred that if we set a date certain, the insurgents will merely wait us out. If we set “goals” then the Iraqi will know
our commitment is temporary and then we will be gone. Therefore, it would be unwise for any Iraqi to support the United States. Sen. McCain also says
we need to enlarge the Army - now 507,000 - and the Marine Corps - now 180,000 - rapidly. No mention of money. No mention of taxes. Just more troops!
Joined enthusiastically by Sen. Lieberman.
Sen. Lieberman is parroting Israel’s Prime Minister Olmert. It is the APAC dogma here that the Civil War in Iraq is inextricably linked to the
Radical Islamists around the world. He never mentioned the Palestinians, he never mentions the word Gaza, nor Hamas which won the electron in the
Occupied Territories. How can we ever bring stability in a region when we are supporting the greatest force for instability - the IDF?
Is it disingenuous for both Sen. Lieberman and Sen. McCain to keep asking for the”moderate” Arab regimes in the region to “step up” to the
plate with money and troops? Who are the senators fooling? Us lay persons or themselves? The Arabs - moderate or immoderate - are not going to move
until we and our client state Israel move quickly towards a fair and equitable resolution of what we euphemistically call the Arab Israeli problem
(since 1948)? Sen. Lieberman trotted out the now discredited Islamic Caliphate! I'm sorry to see Sen. Lieberman act this way. I'm embarrassed for
him.
Sen McCain invoked God in his answer to a question from the audience about halting the Shia and Sunni Civil War in Iraq. Reminds me of Bushj43, who
knew it all on March 18, 2003. Then he was reinforced by the quick success of our take-down of the Iraq Army. B43 dressed up in a flying suit - not
worn since his problematical Alabama Air Guard days - tailored at what cost to US taxpayers? - and jumped down out of an airplane on the USS Lincoln
flight deck under a Karl Rove ordered sign proclaiming, Mission Accomplished! He, VP Cheney and Rumsfeld mucked up Iraq when they ordered the
dissolution of the Iraq Army, the firing of the Iraqi police and the destruction of the Iraqi Civil Service. To know one’s surprise - except
Bush43, VP Cheney and Rumsfeld - the power vacuum just created was quickly filled by first, insurgents, then by local militias and others we are
calling insurgents. We broke it, we can’t fix it. So what do we do?
McCain is running for the 2008 presidency and Lieberman is befuddled at best, a Zionist lobbyist at worst.
Foot Note: Want to know the underlying problem now, on Iraq? The president lied to us.
