It's sad. It really is, people. Corporations may not have the incredible clout they had way back when in the imperial age, but they still throw
aroudn a lot of weight. After forty years of being hamstrung by global conditions and a planned economy, their resurgence began in the 1980s. Now,
look at them. They practically own america. Some of them are getting so big extraterritorially is starting to look like the next logical step. Quick
facts:
1. Bush, cheney, and a few other notable congress people and senators are all heads of very large companies or ex-owners. The president, for example,
owned one of the largest energy energy concerns in the country. Do you really think they wouldn't give a few companies a little boost to help their
stocks or holdings every now and again?
2. Private companies are taking voer the military, ranging from quasi-mercenary security firms doign peacekeeping work to outside technicians doign
repairs. Without too much trouble, if all these companies glommed together and said "We're not supportign this or that," The US military would be,
for the better part, hamstrung.
3. Compare how much of federal taxes were paid by companies in 1920. Compare that to nowadays.
