UNITED NATIONS, NYThe United Nations will reopen talks on a human cloning ban next year rather than in 2 years, a decision marked by the back-and-forth wrangling that has become de rigeur among countries unable to reach a consensus on the issue.

www.biomedcentral.com...

So maybe thing will become a bit more clear, i myself have to say the brits do it kinda reasonable this time and not jumping on the usa's azz
Iam also against reproductive cloning but therapeutic cloning can be very usefull...out, pz

Very interesting, im about 60% sure that they will ban human clonning because i don't think they want governments playing God

yeah, i also think they will ban reproductive cloning, the use of cloning in medicien on the other hand should be approved..

I hope they dont ban it, I would like a mini-me

Even if they do vote for a ban on human cloning, do you really think that will stop scientists from doing it? All that will happen is that it will be done secretly.
I bet countries like the US, UK, Russia, China etc have all got secret experiments like this going on anyway, but it's never revealed, like many other things that they supposedly get up to.

I'm on the fence as to whether or not it should be allowed. I can see good and bad sides to the argument.
What's everyone else's views?

Tja indeed, i also think that there will be experimenting going on, iam affraid we have, once again, trust mankind to not misuse this tool..

I want to be able to 'bump' into famous people on the street, then clone them from their dandruff.

Busboys will rule the world, having samples of everyone's DNA saved on forks in plastic bags.

Clone your ex from an old hairbrush, and raise her/him right this time.

Self love, redefined: "Just had a threeway with me, myslef and I"

The ultimate 'yes man' is you.

Armies of ME! Armies of ME!!!

Sure!

You know those CloneAid people (whatever) that want to live forever through cloning until the Aliens come back for them, have bizarre sex rituals. I really think they want to 'do' themselves. Not just raise themselves as their own offspring. In any event, you KNOW they will try to partner their 'Son' and 'Daughter' with each other just like Mommy and Daddy. I mean you can't let your daughter divorce your immortal cloned soul now can you?

But I'm serious about the Armies of Me. I'd do it in a heartbeat. Keep 'em coming, invade everywhere. Kill us off. We'll make more. More me than bullets. That's my motto.

This will be a morality proof one day (watch):

If I clone one me per minute over an adult life of 50 years, there will be 26 million me's in my own lifetime.

Assuming science allowed for machinations that could clone one me per second over 16 billion me's would result.

Obviously, it wouldn't even take a lifetime to repopulate several Earths, or only a fraction of that to effectively take over one.

Not this this means much overall, but I ascribe to the Hillbilly argument regarding genetics.

"What would a hillbilly do?" I, for one, would take over.

(Edit: Argh, plans foiled...that's only 1.6 billon me's. Durn noggin figgering.)

My opinion is that THERE SHOULD BE NO HUMAN CLONING!!!

its just rediculous...

cant they waste that money on something more important...

also people should NOT try play God...

I wander what the feeling would be within as you were being introduced to yourself?
What would it be like looking at yourself?
There is already a black market for internal organs.
What illegal market will come with cloning?
I dunno, seems to me there will be much chaos and yet, there is a good side to the scenario, or soon to be if not already reality, for reproduction of organs, etc.
What will mankind do with this ability to "clone"? I guess we will get a preview in our lifetime, there sure has been much talk on the subject recently.

I'm making a purposefully absurd argument here. But then if any get on my nerves, I just kill those. I'll make more. The 'devaluation' of life principle is obvious.

Ex: If over population got to be a problem, cannabalize clones. I mean we made them. We're the "Masters" right? It's a sub race, pure and simple.

How long did it take the internet to be perverted for primarily sexual expression? I can't see the technology of potentially being able to clone a sub race in your basement taking even that long. Remember, you don't have to just clone yourself. But you COULD!

We've grown human ears on the backs of mice already (for transplant). You've seen that right?

yeah sure if seen the nice looking mice, but that not cloning, its also difficult to clone someone exactly like yourself, you still have your own conciousness..i do understand your sarcastic comments and i even like em..but we most not underestimate the power of cloning.....

Or clowning. Have you seen that PrankMod Clown Avatar? Freaks me out.

Actually I'm torn on cloning research. I want us to know HOW to do it. Then not do it. Kooky I know, but I CRINGE when any scientific advancement gets banned before we can even do it.

Omletes, broken eggs, yadda, yadda.. A couple freakish monsters are okay with me, if we learn our lesson then.

yeah but iam affraid we wont learn our lesson with creating some freaks..i normally applaud any technical step forwards but this is to close to our being maybe..well the danger is that one will create an army of clones and wants to conquer the world, a bit like Hitler did years ago..and indeed clowning has a lott of potential power also
