Mark Bellhorn isn't Mark Bellhorn. He's hockey star Peter Forsberg. Pedro Martinez is Gumby, Terry Francona is Yertle the Turtle and Orlando Cabrera is Speedy Gonzales. Johnny Damon is Grizzly Adams, Captain Caveman, Tommy Chong and Jesus Christ. Alan Embree is Trot Nixon, who's Bill Mueller, who's Kevin Millar, who's Doug Mienkiewicz. Mike Timlin is Ed Harris, Doug Mirabelli is Joaquin Phoenix and Jason Varitek is George Clooney...

And Julian Tavarez isn't Julian Tavarez. He's Freddy Krueger. Yadier Molina is Benji Molina, who's Jose Molina. Matt Morris is Mike Matheny, who's Jim Edmonds. Dan Haren is Barry Zito, Larry Walker is David Wells and Ray King is the Bizarro David Ortiz. Oh, and Woody Williams is the Keebler Elf...

When I say "Italian hero," do you think of a deli sandwich or an Italo-American icon like Tony LaRussa?

The Red Sox lost to the Cardinals the last two times they played them in the World Series in 1967 and 1946, respectively. But the last two times they played in the World Series, the Red Sox lost to the Mets and Reds in 1986 and 1975, respectively. Sufficed to say then, Boston has lost their last two World Series against St. Louis, but they haven't lost their last two World Series against St. Louis. It's all in the intonation...

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, old friend Tim McCarver is at it again. "A guy who walks to first usually runs home," McCarver spewed during game two of the World Series. But you don't have to be a color analyst to know that most guys who walk to first don't run home - unless you're McCarver, who regularly equates reaching base to scoring runs. Like the time he likened a lead-off walk to a homerun. Then again, maybe McCarver simply forgot to qualify his observation with "in Little League." Because "in Little League," a guy who walks to first usually does run home...
