Oh Gawd.

For Profit Military? Great.

Might as well sell off the roads and schools while we're at it. (I've actually heard people here say they would ~ USA).

it's just like Shadowrun, in a way. I know, I say that about a lot fo things. But seriously, read up on it a little. This sounds like the first steps towards a megacorp future. If these companies ever got together and said , "Hey, if we wanted, we could boss around the government" they probably COULD get away with it. All I'm waiting for is a SERETECH (will explain shortly) decision and voila... Knight Errant and Lone Star will be here shortly.

Well, in the fictional world of Shadowrun, there is an alternate history leading up to 2060, starting at 1999. The supreme court upholds a decision allowing SERETECH corporation to maintain security forces in order to protect personnel and property. 2001, ecoterrorists attack A Shiwiase compound. As a result, the laws governing said laws become laxer. In 2010, certain corporations are given extraterritorial status. These decisions were in no small part influenced by megacorporations which held much sway with the government that they propped up.

I'm starting to think the only thing wrong with this part of the SR scenario is the timing. Look this- in essence, we have private militaries subsidized by the government. People are startign to realize there's big money in the defence industry. How long will it be before these corporations start growing and merging? Sounds like nothing but problems to me.
