Queens speech

I have lived long enough to know that things never remain quite the same for very long.

One of the things that has not changed all that much for me is the celebration of Christmas.

It remains a time when I try to put aside the anxieties of the moment and remember that Christ was born to bring peace and tolerance to a troubled world.

The birth of Jesus naturally turns our thoughts to all new-born children and what the future holds for them.

The birth of a baby brings great happiness - but then the business of growing up begins.

I think this is probably one of her best speeches at Christmas since i can remember. I do admire her (even thou i am a Republican) that she made a direct reference to Christianity and other faiths too.

I am strongly against the alternative Christmas speech that Channel 4 is doing, which is a Muslim lady in a veil (which many have seen as a disrepectly move). Not because she is a muslim or anything like that, but i really do not like those who mock and insult the Monarchy and tradition...

As an American and ONLY a social-liberal, I diasgree with the Queen Mother's comments in this regard. I respect the Constitutional-Monarchy just for clarification.

In a Constituional Monarchy the Monarch is the supreme (albeit ceremonial) representative of his/ her people. The UK is such a heterogenous nation that I feel Her comments should be non-denominational as a ceremonial leader of a nation.

Like I said I am an American, and to clarify an extremely tolerant one. But a woman wearing a Hijab and reporting the news is simply her acting within the traditions of her heritage/ religion. I did not see the programme but simply the fact that she appeared representing her culture does not demign our/ yours.

Please elaborate on what the Queen Mother said, as in the majority of us American posters were not aware of it. (Honestly curious.)
