Wow, Thanks!
It's my first song in a long time, so I feel kind of weird about it. But I do think it turned out well, despite some technical issues I had to fight
along the way that almost had me miss the Christmas deadline (I started recording the vocals about 11PM Saturday night).
As
12m8keall2c hinted above, I got some special "Christmas presents" in the form of a lot of software synthesizer plug-ins, some of which --
like the Native Instruments B4 II tonewheel organ (an awesome instrument!) -- made their debut in this song.
Of course, new software means new bugs, and a rather nasty bug in the Battery 3 VST plug-in (or SONAR 5.2's handling of it) made it so my project
files wouldn't open.
Needless to say, that slowed things down somewhat. I started the project late Thursday and didn't fix the bug until Saturday afternoon. But I finally
managed to isolate the bug by disabling VST plug-ins one by one until the project loaded.
Thankfully, the DXi version of Battery 3 seems to work fine, and provided the drum and jingle bell parts for this song.
The coolest part (from my standpoint anyway) is that I think my long musical dry spell is broken, and I'm going to prioritize finishing my second
album ASAP.
Rather than wait, I'll probably release the individual songs as they become available, then polish them up for the "gold master" of the album.
So get ready to
Roxxor, because at long last, it's coming.
