If the US economy collapsed tomorrow, the results would be catastrophic, leading to a world wide depression. The EU, China, Japan, and pretty much
every other nation that matters would not allow such a thing to happen, so you do should not lose sleep over it. What you are seeing is the US
becoming less important in the world. The US is not going to plummet rapidly for the above mentioned reasons, but rather slowly decline, with
corporations and others gradually shifting to relying on other markets, like India and China, rather than the US market.
For example, take an industry like automobiles. If the US economy collapsed, the auto makers would be in bad shape because the US, the land of 2 car
families, would no longer buy cars. What is happening today is that more people in China, India, and other emerging economies are buying cars. In
several years time, Americans may not be able to buy as many cars as they used to, but this loss will be offset by the increased sales in China,
India, etc.
