City chief Kevin Keegan is hoping to bring in a replacement for Ben Thatcher within the next twenty four hours.

The manager has wasted no time in his bid to replace the Wales international who is set to return to London. He is hopeful of completing a loan deal before Thursday..

"Since it was announced that Ben Thatcher would be leaving the club I have had ten phone calls about a possible replacement," said the manager.

"I am hoping to know by Wednesday on the outcome of a potential loan deal that I have earmarked and it is not Michael Ball.

Manchester City will move for Rangers defender Michael Ball, if Kevin Keegan fails to land his number one target to replace Ben Thatcher. Wales international Thatcher is close to completing a move to Fulham, having only signed for City from Leicester City last summer.

Keegan has quickly identified who he wants to replace the left back and is hoping to wrap up his loan swoop by Thursday, with Besiktas' Spain international Juanfran rumoured to be the player in question. However, the City chief concedes he has other options should this deal fall through with England cap Ball under consideration.
