Sun Jihai's Manchester City future is in severe doubt after he was ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing the cruciate ligament in his left knee in Saturday night's 1-0 Barclays Premiership win over Chelsea.

Sun suffered the injury in the 42nd minute as he attempted to tackle Eidur Gudjohnsen.

The 27-year-old was immediately helped off the field by City's medical staff - and the injury was quickly confirmed, the worst possible news for a player whose present contract runs out next summer.

Yeah i thought he was ok, thing is he is still only 27. When he comes back and he gets back to his best i can't see them not giving him a contract...

Well City manager Kevin Keegan had just opened negotiations on a new deal for the utility player and he hopes the board will look sympathetically on the case for a new deal despite the player's injury.
