Manchester City officials have dismissed suggestions Kevin Keegan could be sacked this weekend - but there is no doubt the Blues boss is under renewed
pressure after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Everton. Irate City fans besieged local radio phone-ins and websites to express their disgust at the
Blues' dismal performance against a side beaten 5-1 just four months ago and reduced to 10 men following the controversial second-half dismissal of
goalscorer Tim Cahill.
Even Keegan admitted if he had paid to get into Eastlands he would probably have demanded his money back such was the paucity of a performance from
which only goalkeeper David James emerged with any credit. With just four points from five games, City currently lie in 13th spot but would drop
another place if Southampton beat Charlton in tonight's televised clash.
And that situation, following on from last season's near disaster when the Blues came perilously close to falling out of the top flight, has led to
speculation that Keegan's three-year stint in charge will be ended if his side lose at bottom of the table Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Kevin Keegan still wants to see out the remaining two years of his contract as Manchester City boss but admits the decision could be taken out of his
hands if results do not improve. :loudhorn:
He's probably begging for the sack and the players know it. He wants out but doesn't want to look like the "quitter" as he always has, and wants to
make it seem that he stuck it out. I bet he's down on his knees praying for the sack.
He seems to do pretty good in the first season at a club then it goes downhill from there. He has one method, attack attack attack...He just don't cut
it as a top level manager.
No he doesn't, he's pretty one dimensional and seems to be too lax with the players...you know something's wrong when they start begging for more
training.
Manchester City insisted on Friday night that manager Kevin Keegan will see out his contract which still has 19 months to run.
Keegan had stated earlier today the end of his managerial career in England was in sight.
The Manchester City manager, whose contract expires in summer 2006, may eventually be tempted to move abroad but he told Sky TV's Premier League
programme: "I am coming to the end of my time as a manager in this country.
"Maybe there will be something somewhere else for me in the future. But you never know.
"I have enjoyed every minute of it (my career)."
However, City officials moved to reassure fans that Keegan was not planning to depart before the end of his current contract.
