Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes has revealed Liverpool have contacted him over a move to Anfield.

Morientes is considering a move away from Real in the January transfer window after growing increasingly frustrated at his lack of first team chances.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is in the market for a striker having lost Djibril Cisse to a long-term injury and with his other forwards failing to find any consistency.

Morientes is widely believed to be Liverpool's top target in the New Year and the Spanish international has admitted he would be interested in a move to Anfield.

its believed a bid has been launched but the agent is keeping cool

"It is certain Liverpool are interested in the player but I don't believe there have been any concrete propositions for a transfer," said Carvajal.

"Morientes only wants to play and today this is impossible in Real Madrid. The player is a great striker and there are several European clubs interested in him."

Morientes has left the decision over his future up to Real.
"I am a player of Real and the club has the decision over my situation," said Morientes.

"The rumours are strong but at the moment no-one has told me anything and I have not had any direct propositions."

i hope this is true and would like to see him at liverpool. theres no doubting hes a class striker and great goalscorer. and the price is supposed to be 3.5 million. thats a good deal.

i think he would settle in well too, there a little spanish community at anfield now, and he has played in france with no great difficulty.

think it might happen. and they have a relationship sorta with real madrid with nunez signing for them, and owen and a few years back mc manamanam signing for real

accorinding to this, more teams are chasing him and real want double want liverpool want to pay

Liverpool will face competition from "several European clubs" as they increase their interest in Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes.

Reports suggest the Anfield club have already had a 3.5million bid for the 28-year-old turned down, but the player's agent, Gines Carvajal, insists he knows nothing of specific offers.

However it is believed Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has registered his interest in Morientes with the player's representative.

This mention of "several other clubs" probably means "Pay up more money". I doubt £3.5million would ever be accepted for him so it's more of an empty threat...although Monaco will surely be interested.

They want more than 3.5 million and flatly rejected it, they want nearer 8 million for him before they talk business...

yer. 3.5 million for a guy of his class is very cheap i think. and double that is more reasonable.

i think monaco will be interested. but it depends on saviola, hes on loan from barcelona and they got kallon. could they afford the 3 of them in the team?

do real need the money aswell. perhaps a loan deal could happen. i think real owe liverpool for the owen deal. might be a good idea to build on relationships between the clubs

the liverpool offical website is saying he wants to join them but the price seems to be the obsticle

"Madrid know my situation and they know they must do something about me," he is reported to have said.

"They must sort out the situation by being sensible.

"I haven't spoken to [Liverpool manager] Rafa Benitez but I have always appreciated his work and I would like to play for him.

"There are things that must be sorted out now and I hope they can do it.
