Ierokolis Stoltidis' header gave Olympiakos a deserved 1-0 win as Liverpool's Champions League hopes were dealt a blow in Athens.
The Greek side totally dominated the first half and after Yannis Okkas had struck the post early on, Stoltidis rose above Sami Hyypia to powerfully
head home Rivaldo's free-kick.
Giovanni, Rivaldo and Pantelis Kafes all should have added to the home side's tally as Liverpool failed to muster a single effort on Antonis
Nikopolidis' goal.
John Arne Riise fired a free kick well wide 10 minutes after the break as the visitors tried to raise their game.
But the Reds had another escape 15 minutes from time when Stoltidis' bullet header crashed back off Dudek's crossbar.
Anastasios Pantos was sent off with eight minutes left but Liverpool fared no better against 10 men and were well beaten.
