it looks like the striker might be joining them

Southampton striker James Beattie has reportedly plumped for a switch to Everton, snubbing an offer from Aston Villa.

Struggling Premiership side Southampton accepted bids in the region of ?6.5 million from Everton and Villa on Saturday.

Saints boss Harry Redknapp confirmed the England international had 48 hours to make a decision over which club to join.

It now appears the lure of Goodison Park has proved more attractive to Beattie, following talks with both clubs.

I think they already said Ferguson is going to be hitting the road, he will be surplus to requirements. They should have dumped him years ago lol!

Beattie will be a great signing for them and will help them push for that euro spot...

Yep it looks like he had his sights set on certain players and didn't go out and panick buy when Rooney and Radinzki left. Seems to have paid off for Moyes and Everton and they have a bit of money to spend when they like to bolster the side..

James Beattie has completed his £6 million move to Everton from Southampton.

The England international striker agreed terms on Sunday and has now put pen-to-paper on a move to Merseyside after passing a medical on Tuesday.

Everton boss David Moyes has been looking for a top class striker since the sale of Wayne Rooney to Manchester United in the summer.

The Toffees fought off Aston Villa in the race for Beattie, who will now be looking to replicate the form that buoyed him into the thoughts of England boss Sven Goran Eriksson.

Everton have been the surprise packages of The Premiership this season, but the Christmas period has highlighted their lack of strength in depth with a downturn in form.

Beattie is not eligible to face Portsmouth on Tuesday evening, but may make his debut in the FA Cup game against Plymouth on Saturday.
